Covid pandemic 19 provided enormous turmoil for all countries in the world. Transmission of this new type of corona virus is relatively easy, anyone can infect other people just by talking, touching and close together. How this is then able to cause concern in the midst of society, especially among workers. This concern is reasonable, because not all companies have facilities to prevent and inhibit its transmission. The health protocol as a government effort as an alternative is absolutely necessary for all people to follow. But can everyone keep their distance while working? Or has the worker been following a new "habit" for a short time? The answer is certainly diverse. This depends on many factors, so bringing workers together in an area is not a surefire solution during a pandemic. Working from home (work from home) during the pandemic is a choice because of the existence of a large-scale social restriction policy (pspb) and restrictions on community activities (pkm).Uncertainty of the situation makes social distancing increasingly extended, this has an impact on work from home (wfh) which will be done longer for workers and companies.
The policy made by the company to employ employees from home seems to provide convenience for employees, but the reality on the ground is not entirely easy to implement. Some employees who live in a conducive environment allow them to work more productively. Then what about those who are the opposite? Wouldn't new problems arise that would then impact on performance and productivity? It is important for companies and employees to pay attention to this condition, in a short amount of time it still allows employees to work in situations that are not supportive. With the current erratic developments that will be able to result in similar conditions continue to recur in the long run, employees may arrive at the saturation point.
This employee burnout is often known as burnout, which is one of the conditions that shows an emotional reaction to people who work in human services, and work closely with the community. Burnout is a reaction between the personal environment is relatively new, which was introduced by psychologists in the industrial and organizational fields. Burnout generally occurs in routine work environments such as teachers, nurses, social workers and private employees. Such expressions are no longer relevant to current conditions, during this pandemic, forcing workers to work from an environment that should not be a place to work.
This kind of change certainly causes high burnout for employees, especially for those who already have family and responsibilities at home. It is not uncommon for those who live in crowded (urban) environments, find it difficult to adjust to change the personal environment of workers quickly and significantly. Then how to overcome this saturation in the pandemic? What is the solution for employees who feel bored while working from home? To answer that question, it is important to know the main cause of burnout. Some of the following can be a reason why burnout occurs while working from home (wfh), such as:
1. Employees are in an environment that is less conducive
Not all employees live in an "appropriate" environment to do their work. Take the example of employees who live in densely populated (urban) areas. Noise due to congested people in an area can disrupt employee concentration. Concentration is disturbed continuously causing a burnout that continues and continues to cause stress.
2. Limited facilities for working at home
Office environments are usually created with work facilities that meet the needs of employees complete with some essential facilities such as computers, internet connections, printers, etc. prepared as a support in employee work. Because employees no longer use or may not have office facilities, it will indirectly provide additional burdens for employees. Not to mention the additional electricity load and internet connection caused by work will be done more online. Similarly, the reduction in activities of some companies tends to have an impact on lowering wages of workers, this will indirectly cause burnout.
3. Work productivity versus household activities
Working from home is not entirely easy for some employees. Employees are required to work productively but on the one hand continue to complete activities at home, it will put pressure to carry out a combination of these activities. The demands of work and household activities in relatively the same time can reduce focus and productivity. The focus that is divided between work and household activities will have an impact on productivity, this reduction can be on one or both. This double activity will put psychological pressure on employees, so this can lead to burnout.
4. Excessive fear of a pandemic
Psychological pressure is not only experienced from the work side, but also comes from pressure due to a pandemic. This pressure also has an effect on employee psychology, with the emergence of excessive concern which can then cause stress. Although not directly related to work, this fear also puts pressure on employees when working from home.
5. Being in the midst of uncertainty
Pandemics provide uncertainty in employee careers, with many waves of layoffs by companies high enough to be a frightening specter for employees. As much as possible employees will keep their jobs, however, on the one hand the company also does not want to continue to burden his finances while income tends to decrease or may not exist at all. So that the burnout situation becomes something that cannot be avoided.
There are still many reasons why burnout is increasingly becoming an issue in employees who do work from home. These reasons have different features for each person, because some people have their own reasons and understandings. This concern is reasonable and is the cause of burnout feared to have an impact on reducing employee productivity. The company has a duty to be able to facilitate employees so that burnout will no longer occur to employees.
