Fakultas Ilmu dan Budaya : The Faculty of Literature was established on the initiative of the Nusa Tenggara Faculties Foundation, which is chaired by Lt. Col. Minggoe and Deputy Chairperson Teuku Mochamad Daoedsjah who was the Governor of the Sunda Kecil at that time. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra, I Gusti Ketut Ranuh, Dr. Ir. Soekarno, Prof. Dr. Poerbatjaraka, Prof. Dr. Prijono is assisted by foreign scholars who have a concern for Bali, such as Dr. R. Goris and Prof. Dr. Swami Ajarananda, succeeded in establishing September 29, 1958 as the opening day of the Udayana Faculty of Literature. On January 1, 1959, the Udayana Faculty of Literature officially became part of Airlangga University, and since then the Udayana Faculty of Literature also changed its name to the Faculty of Literature. At present, the Faculty of Cultural Science at Udayana University is increasingly showing its identity as a faculty of literature and cultural sciences as reflected in the appearance of its lobby buildings with philosophical nuances that form the philosophical basis of Balinese life. With the ornamentation of the theme of the screening of the mandara giri on the decoration of the coil kuri at the front of the lobby building, with the erection of the statue of Goddess Saraswati in the lobby, and by gracefully attached these two inscriptions of the founding of the beloved faculty, it is hoped that all of these can become a more steady source of inspiration. towards increasingly glorious success, that is, success because there is a strong will to understand the continuity of the past with the present to a brighter future.

Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Udayana University, was established in 1962. It is one of the high quality medical education institutions and can be aligned with institutions at the national and ASEAN level. Currently, the Faculty is conducting two programs; undergraduate and postgraduate (educational specialists, Masters and Doctoral program in Bio-Medical sciences). Besides performing their duties, Faculty of Medicine also plays an active role in the process of research and public service.  


ENGLISH CLASS 

Faculty of Medicine established English Class to accommodate foreign students studying at faculty of medicine. Currently, foreign students in English Class consist of Malaysian students and some students from Timor Leste. Local and Indonesian students are also encouraged to join the English Class, but they must undergo selection tests especially in English skills. The Faculty of Medicine first received students from Malaysia in 1995. From 1995 to 2005 the number of Malaysian students enrolled in the Faculty per year is less than 20, but since 2006 the number has grown to around 50 per year. 


The number of students in English Class and Conventional Class (Bahasa Indonesia) is almost the same (about 150 students). The competencies and skills learned in these two classes are the same, except for the language used in the teaching and learning process. Currently the Faculty is trying to compile a list of medical schools abroad that can be invited to collaborate in providing opportunities for English Class students who are interested to spend about 4 weeks to undertake special study programs on their own chosen topics. All costs associated with special study programs conducted abroad such as travel expenses, accommodation etc., will be the responsibility of the student concerned.

Bali is rich in customary law values and it needs to be explored, nurtured, and developed in order to develop the national legal repertoire. To carry out the excavation, development, and encouragement of these customary law values, experts in law are considered necessary. Based on this matter, the Law Scholars in Bali under the name of Association of Law Graduates and Public Knowledge gave proposal to the Presidium of Udayana University. It received a positive response and support from the Presidium in the meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 1964. Udayana University decided to establish the Faculty of Law and Public Knowledge in 1964.  

 

With the issuance of the Minister of Education’s Decree Number 17/D/O/1993; graduates of the Faculty of Law throughout Indonesia are no longer accompanied by majors but as managers of human resources for the development of legal discipline. Another Decree no. 678/PT.17.H/II.22/C.10.03/1993 dated August 2, 1993 dividing the discipline as : 1. The Legal Basis of Legal Sciences ; 2. Division of Private Law; 3. Section of Constitutional Law; 5. Legal Section of State Administration ; 6. International Law ; 7. Legal and Community Section; and 8. Legal Section of Events .  


To support the activities, based on Udayana University Rector Decree Number 405/PT.17.H/II/C.10.03/ 1993 dated October 1, 1993, Udayana University formed a Law Laboratory which supervises three areas of activity, namely : 1. Consultation and Legal Aid; 2. Field of Legal Litigation (Law Enforcement Practice); and 3. Non Litigation Field (Other Legal Practices). Subsequently, the Decree was updated based on Udayana University Rector Decree Number 4095/PT.17.H/II.22/C.10.03/1993 About the Establishment of Udayana University Laboratory in charge: I. Consultation and Legal Aid Unit; II. Litigation Unit; and III. Non Litigation Unit. 

 

In addition, the Faculty of Law also has a program of specificity in a particular field according to the students’ interests and talents, namely the specificity of legal practitioners, government law and business law.

    The Faculty of Engineering of Udayana University was officially established on October 1, 1965 with the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 248 / Sek / P.U / 1965 dated October 20, 1965, which consisted of two majors, namely the Department of Architecture and the Department of Fine Arts. As the background of the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, is in the context of preservation, development of the Balinese culture in particular and national culture in general, especially in the face of development and development of tourism.


The Faculty of Engineering has a mission as a higher education institution that is able to develop science, technology and arts that are culturally minded and pay attention to cultural and environmental sustainability. In line with existing developments, the Faculty of Engineering of Udayana University continues to improve and develop itself. To anticipate technological developments and the demands of the community for technical personnel.

        Established in 1967, according to the Decree of  Director General of Higher Education no. 102, Faculty of Agriculture always expand the quality of education and research through cooperation with several universities, research institutes, and local government, both at home and abroad. 


Master Program (S2) was established in 1998. In 2013 the Faculty of Agriculture opened a new Study Program, Landscape Architecture. 

 

Some excellent products produced by the faculty are 1) Biopesticide Persada (patented); 2) Biopesticide Biota-L; 3) discovery of Gen acvB (has been registered as an international patent in Japan); 4) pWR27 Plamid discovery, gene carrier CVPD r, CVPD disease resistant genes in citrus (registered in the Directorate General of IPR, the Department of Justice); 5) Rapid detection kit of CVPD disease in citrus plants; 6) Collection of various types of antioxidant-producing tubers; 7) releasing Salak Gula as new variety; 8) vegetative and generative breeding technology ; 9) nuftah plasma collection of local Balinese plants of socio-cultural value, etc. 

 

Some Professors of the Faculty of Agriculture Udayana University has been recognized to have academic and professional achievements in their field and regularly become guest lecturers at many universities in Japan including many international publications. Cooperation with overseas universities includes research, seminar / conference, student / lecturer exchange, and other academic meetings.

At the beginning of its establishment, the Faculty of Economics and business has only two Study Programs, General Economics and Economics for Company. With the enactment of Semester Credit System, S1 Program in the faculty had two study programs, Economics and Development Studies and Study of Management. 

 

In 1983 Accounting Study Program was established. On July 16, 1996, with the Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 360/DIKTI/Kep/1996 Extension Program in Economic and Development Studies, Study of Management, and Accounting Programs at Faculty of Economics are established. 

 

With the increasing needs of the community, in the academic year 1996/1997 Faculty of Economics improved the Financial Study Program into Finance and Banking Program. Diploma III Marketing Program and Diploma III Taxation Program were established in the next academic year. 

  

In 2012 Faculty of Economics Udayana University opened the Doctoral Program of Management based on the Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 27/E/O/2012 dated   January 24, 2012. On June 21, 2013, based on Udayana University Rector Decree Number 100A/UN14/HK /2013 dated June 21, 2013, the Faculty of Economics changed its name to Faculty of Economics and Business.  


The core of courses consists of (1) Developmental Economics that is designed to provide students with basic economic principles and the ability to apply this knowledge to evaluate and formulate economic policy; (2) Management that focus on general management skills and knowledge of the function and processes of an organization, include human resources management, organization, and leadership; and (3) Accounting that teaches the process of keeping and verifying accounts, and problem solving with regard to financial records and performance.

Faculty of Animal Husbandry Udayana University was originally named Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry. It was established in 1962 according to the decree of the Ministry of Education and Culture No. 104, dated August 19, 1962, and based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 8, dated January 31, 1963. At that time, Udayana University had only four faculties, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, and Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (located in Singaraja city, Buleleng regency). 

 

Based on Presidential Decree no. 62 of 1982 on Udayana University Organization, the name Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry changed into Faculty of Animal Husbandry. The Faculty of Animal Husbandry has two major study programs and nine fields of study supported by laboratories. Referring to the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia No. 0311/U/1994 on the nationally applicable curriculum of the Bachelor Degree Program of Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Animal Husbandry has two major concentrations (Livestock Production and Nutrition and Animal Feeding). Both have been accredited by the National Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Higher Education, each rated A. 

 

Through the Directorate of Higher Education Decree on the implementation of Livestock Production Study Program No. 1871/D/T/2002 dated September 3, 2002, the Livestock production Study Program has been established in S1. This study program is still managed by the auspices of the Livestock Production Department.

 

According to the results of tracer studies on alumni and stakeholders in the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, it is necessary to combine all study programs in the Faculty into one Study Program. After going through various stages, finally the merger of  Study Program at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Udayana University can be realized, with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 113/Dikti/Kep/2007 dated 31 August 2007 namely “Animal Husbandry Study Program”.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Udayana University was formed through several stages. Starting with UNUD Chancellor’s Decree No. 613 / PT.17 / I.a.012 / 1984 dated 1 July 1984 concerning the Establishment of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Study Program (PS MIPA) of Udayana University; then at that time two study sub-programs were formed namely the Chemistry Study Sub-prongam and the Physics Study Sub-prongam.


The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers courses and research on fundamental sciences for the advancement of basic and applied sciences and technology. Currently the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has 6 Study Programs: 


Study Program of Physics 

The scientific study of matter and energy and the effect that they have on each other. The subjects include Geosciences, which develop a special interest in selected areas of geology, such as climatology, earthquake, tsunami, and Geographical Information System (GIS).


Study Program of Chemistry 

The composition, structure, properties, and the interactions of matters.


Study Program of Biology 

The science of animals and plant life, from the molecular level to the whole organism. The Study Program has extensive research activities especially in Marine Biology, e.g. the study of carotenoid on seaweed, abalone, and shrimp.


Study Program of Mathematics 

The development and application of mathematical methods for solving real-world problems and problem derived from science and technology.


Study Program of Computing Sciences 

The program focuses on producing professional experts and prepares students to appreciate and integrate new software and hardware technologies and knowledge in the information technology industry.


Study Program of Pharmacy 

The program teaches the utilization of the properties of medicinal substances. Studies include traditional medicine (Usadha Bali-the Hindu’s concept of medication) and modern pharmaceutical sciences.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine officially became the Faculty according the Decree of Minister of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia No. 204/O/1997, August 22, 1997, and one of nine state veterinary faculties in Indonesia. Faculty of Veterinary produces professionally qualified veterinary graduates and veterinarians. There are two stages of study in the faculty, the first one is Graduate Program of Veterinary Medicine (PSKH) and the second is Veterinary Profession Program (PPDH), which is supported by the best qualified lecturers and researchers with master/PhD qualifications. 


Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has 8 concentration programs, namely 1) animal clinic; 2) animal disease science; 3) veterinary public health; 4) physiology; 5) pharmacology and pharmacy; 6) reproduction; 7) anatomy; and 8) basic veterinary sciences. Educational and research activities are supported by 21 laboratories under the section and two joint laboratories, namely Biomedical and CSAD laboratory (Center For Studies On Animal Diseases) which is a collaboration of Faculty of Veterinary Udayana University with Institute for Parasitology, Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany . 


Faculty of Veterinary has specialty in Balinese Pig and Cow Management and Disease. In addition, to increase knowledge and scientific expertise, Faculty of Veterinary has established a wide range of cooperation with various parties, home and abroad, through cooperation in education, research, training, and field work.

The development of Agricultural Technology at Udayana University began in 1962 which was initiated by Livestock Technology 

Division, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal 

Husbandry which is now named Faculty of 

Animal Husbandry. Since 1967, a study in 

Agricultural Product Technology was developed and managed by Faculty of Agriculture Udayana University. 


Rapid development of the need for technology empowerment in agriculture sector in the broad sense and development of science and technology of agricultural technology at several universities in Indonesia and abroad, Udayana University through Rector Decree No.485/SK/ PT.17/R-VII.1983 established a new study program, Agricultural Technology Study Program. Based on the results of the academic study and administrative feasibility of the formation of Agricultural Technology study program proposed by Udayana University, in 1984, the study program received permission for opening and organizing by the Directorate of Higher Education (DIKTI) through Directorate General of Higher Education Decree Department of the Republic of Indonesia No.55/DIKTI/Kep/1984 to accept new students. 

The formation of this faculty was followed by the change of the specification to Study Program with Rector Decree No. 160/J14/KP.02.18/2005 dated 15 June 2005, with 3 Study Programs Study Program namely (1) Study Program of Food Science and Technology, designed for students who have an interest in the processing of agricultural products for human consumption. The study includes food analysis, food biochemistry, nutrition, food microbiology, and food processing technology; (2) Study Program of Agro-Industrial Technology, introduces the industrial application of food sciences and technology and the commercial outcomes. Core units include industrial management and engineering, industrial statistics and computation, bio-industry, and quality control; and (3) Study Program of Agricultural Engineering, Students will study the following areas: post-harvest engineering, food and agricultural machinery and ergonomics, natural resources management, and management of agricultural engineering.

The establishment Faculty of Tourism was a long process that started from the Tourism Study Program (PSIK) Udayana University based on the Rector of Udayana University Decree No. 326/PT.17/I.01.12/1985. In its development, Tourism Study Program changed its status to Diploma 4 Tourism Program under the auspices of Faculty of Letters Udayana University by Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. 68/DIKTI/Kep/1988 dated 2 November 1988.    


Responding to the global challenges and in order to prepare human resources that are reliably academic, professional, skilled, and able to compete in the field of tourism, Udayana University established Study Program of Tourism both in Regular Program (Morning Class) based on the Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 67/Dikti/Kep/1989 and Parallel Program (Class of Evening) based on Decree of the Rector No. 2442/J14/HK.01.23 / 1998. 


Faculty of Tourism Udayana 

University has 3 objectives:  (a) oriented with the problems of tourism (b) oriented on the job market  (job opportunities)  available and (c) identifiable employment targets in various job vacancies such as: lecturers, Civil Servants, research institutes and tourism developers, consultants and staff who hold positions in tourism businesses (tourism, travel, hotel, etc). 


Faculty of Tourism Udayana University has three study programs: 1. Tourism Destination in Undergraduate Program (S1), 2. Travel Industry in Undergraduate Program (S1), and 3. D4 Tourism Program. Faculty of tourism also has Master and Ph.D program in Tourism. The graduates of the Faculty of Tourism is expected to be a leader or intellectual in tourism industry and involved as a professional in tourism and government agencies that handle the field of tourism. 


The Graduates of Tourism Study Programs both Regular and Parallel are entitled to be Bachelor of Applied Tourism Science (SST.Par), which is equal to S1 degree (Strata 1). This is stated in the letter of Minister of Order of the State Apparatus No. B-U34/A.II/1997 dated November 6, 1997, and Permission of  the Directorate General of Higher Education.

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Udayana University, established on June 28, 2009, is the 12th faculty in the University of Udayana. The initial initiator and at the same time as the founder of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Udayana University was Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Bakta, Sp.PD (KHOM).

Fisheries is the youngest faculty at Udayana University, established on 

October 10, 2011 by the Decree of Udayana 

University’s Rector Number: 680/UN.14/HK

/2011 on the establishment of Faculty of 

Marine Science and Fisheries Udayana 

University. The presence of this faculty was to ensure the equalization of educational 

opportunities, quality improvement as well as the relevance and efficiency of education management in facing local, national, and global challenges. 


The faculty plays an important role in developing science and technology as well as preparing human resources having academic expertise in marine science and fisheries as the result of the implementation of Indonesia as a maritime nation, and to support national development. The faculty has 2 Study Programs Namely Marine Science and Aquatic Resource Management.

The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries has 2 Study Programs namely:


1. Water Resources Management Study Program

The magnitude of the potential of water resources; encompassing freshwater and coastal waters of Indonesia requires human resources who are able to manage these water resources and are able to compete with the times.


2. Marine Science Study Program

The Study Program of Marine Science aims to produce reliable human resources in the field of Maritime Affairs that are equipped with solid knowledge as well as solving solutions and provisions on environmental issues and natural disasters so that they can contribute to the utilization of natural resources for the welfare of society.
