SACRIFICES ON THE THIRD MONTH AND RITUAL OF THROWING BANANA AT THE VILLAGE CUSTOMARY, TENGANAN DAUH TUKAD (2017)

There is a uniqe tradition still being preserved and practiced by the youth organization or Sekaa Teruna at the village of Tenganan Dauh Tukad, in Karangasem Bali. This event is normally conducted in the third month of local calendrical system, i.e around May every year.

            The ritual of throwing banana (masabatan biu) among the members of Sekaa Teruna was carried out by men of youth organization, but women traditional organization was not involved at all.   The ritual of throwing banana can be understood as a challange for the childhood when they have changed to the adulthood.

            This ritual can also be associated to preserving patriarkhy social system. As mentioned before that the ceremony was totally done by men and youth traditional organization without involving the women of the village.
