Abstrak

Many people think that the sustainability of a language very much depends on whether or not there are speakers speaking the language. This idea is not entirely true since language needs reference. There is no word if there is nothing to represent. The experts working on ecolinguistics believe that the ecosystem contributes a lot to the sustainability of a language. This is in line with what is stated by Halliday (1990) saying that there is relationship between ecology and language. Based on the idea that ecology is important to the sustainability of a language, this article is written to show that from one tree, in this case the coconut tree, there are a lot of things that are related to language and culture that can be contributed. The disappearance of this tree will also cause the disappearance of the words and culture related to it. Thus, it is expected that people will understand that when/if they want to keep the language, they have to maintain the ecosystem, in this case flora and fauna.
