Introduction

Smart City in Indonesia, has started to be launched in 2014, by targeting several big cities such as Bandung, Surabaya, and Jakarta. Likewise, more and more cities and other regions in Indonesia are also realizing Smart City with their respective concepts. At the beginning of its implementation, the technology most widely used in Smart City in Indonesia was Cloud Computing and the internet network. However, along with the development of information technology from time to time, the implementation of Smart City in Indonesia has developed towards the use of the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science (Big Data), and the concept of Industry 4.0. Finally, in 2022, the trend of Smart City development in Indonesia is towards the Metaverse.

Metaverse is not new, considering the technology behind it is a combination of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). AR and VR provide virtualization into the human physical world as well as improve the user experience for services provided based on information technology. However, what is significant in Metaverse is the demand to provide a much better internet connection and communication network, namely 5G and above. This is important considering that various things will be integrated into it, from the data side, services, to simulation and virtualization into the real world.

This is a challenge for the Indonesian government and related stakeholders in preparing Smart City in Indonesia towards the Metaverse. Moreover, there are already other countries in the world (namely South Korea) that are preparing their capital cities to enter the Metaverse. Of course, with Indonesia having prepared the new capital of the archipelago on the island of Kalimantan, this has become a challenge in itself to prepare supporting infrastructure, human resources, and adequate costs for this.

Conclusion

The Smart City plan in Indonesia towards Metaverse, especially with the relocation of the country's capital to a new location, is a challenge for the government and related stakeholders, to realize this, is studied from the need for infrastructure, communication networks, costs, to the need for reliable human resources. in the field.
