Beware of Pain in the Lower Right Side of the Abdomen

If you feel pain in your lower right side of the abdomen, don't underestimate it because it can be a sign of several types of disease for example inflammation of the appendix. The appendix is ​​located on the lower right side of the abdomen and if there is suddenly inflammation it is called as an acute appendicitis. Symptoms of appendicitis often appear suddenly and make it difficult for people to do activities. The classic symptom that appears such as pain radiating from the gastric then moving and settling in the lower right stomach. In addition, other symptoms often appear in the form of fever, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, flatulence or difficulty defecating. Surgery often needed to treat acute appendicitis.

Several diseases that also often appear in the lower right abdomen, such as urinary tract infections, urinary tract stones, and inguinal hernias. Lower right abdominal pain in women often need to be more alert to ovarian cysts, endometriosis or ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb). Ovarian cysts or fluid-filled sacs in the ovaries are generally painless. Ovarian cysts can occur on the right or left side. However, if this cyst twists and breaks in the right ovary, it will cause pain at right side. An ectopic pregnancy is a misplaced pregnancy and causes pain if rupture or miscarriage. Usually patients become pale and weak and require emergency action as soon as possible. Endometriosis or thickening of the uterine tissue outside the uterus, often causes pain because it irritates the surrounding tissues or organs. The typical symptom is pain during menstruation.

The presence of inguinal hernias or protrusions that contain the intestines and intestinal lining due to weakness of the abdominal muscles on the right side also often causes pain, but this can be recognized by the presence of a major lump in the groin of the thigh. These lump generally disappears while sleeping and appears when standing or straining. If the hernia is pinched, it causes pain in the patient. Other possibilities such as a tumor on the right side of the intestine also cause pain, especially if tumor makes obstruction or blockage. Infection or the presence of stones in the urinary tract also need to be considered.  It is very important to practice a good clinical examination and supporting examinations such as laboratory, x-ray, abdominal ultrasound or CT scan to establish a diagnosis for appropriate treatment.
