Introduction
The concept of sustainable
development or sustainable development, which was declared in the 1980s, has
been running for more than 20 years and has become a serious concern of world
organizations. In order for each country and society to adopt this concept as a
new order of development now and in the future. The concept of development that
combines three important elements, namely economic, social and cultural and
environmental. The three must walk in harmony and there is no element that is
more important than the others are. The emergence of this concept is none
other, because of the imbalance in the application of the previous development concept,
which is more concerned with mere economic aspects. However, the social and
cultural side and the environment are also very important.
The concept of Sustainable development has been broken down into the concept of development of the
Millennium Development Goals (MDG'S) which ended in 2015. Then continued with a
new development concept with the name Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
This is a kind of world development roadmap that must be referred to and become
a guideline for implementation including its evaluation system.
Does this concept succeed one hundred per cent? This answer is certainly very relative, because
every country in implementing it depends on many things, ranging from financial
capacity to its human resources, and more importantly is the commitment to
implement it (Me too). There are countries that strictly implement each of the
indicators listed in the three variables, especially environmental variables.
There are also countries that are ignorant of this concept.
Some countries compete to organize
the environment as part of general development. They organize the city into a
green city, organize the river under the name City River, arrange the hotel
under the name green hotel, and some even call themselves Green Cruise. Green
Village and others. The implementation of social and cultural variables can be
seen in several countries preserve historic and use them. Preserve the way of
life, traditions of the community, including the agricultural system in Bali.
They preserve artistic values, preserve holy sites, and see the cultural
preservation efforts carried out by the United Nations Organization (UN). This
is a form of caring for the state in preserving and utilizing the potential
that exists for the welfare of society (read economics).
How does Tourism Adopt and
Implement this Concept?
Tourism as a newcomer to world development
has ratified the concept of Sustainable Development under the name of
Sustainable Tourism Development. The element or variable certainly does not change;
it is just how it is implemented in relation to tourism as a new global
business.
How does tourism implement
environmental variables related to tourism business? Of course, this is very
interesting if we know what real tourism products or actually "sold"
in tourism. This question is classic, but difficult to answer, or if there is
one who can answer it, the answer will vary. Tourism products are
"environment", nature; selling rice fields, selling irrigation
systems (rivers have waterfalls, canyons etc.), beaches and seas are tourist
attractions. Therefore, what must be done by the "tourism industry"
is to preserve it, making it a product that educates both Guest and Host.
Social and cultural values can
also become tourism products, they don't disappear, they are only seen
(something to see), they enjoy activities with local people living like
villagers (something to do), getting up early, going to the rice fields, taking
part in the ploughing, join in on and many more activities that can be done by tourists.
Of course, this activity will be a new business for the community so that they
get economic benefits (read prosperous). (Something to buy). Isn't that what is
listed in the tourism code of ethics or what is expected in the concept of
sustainable development? Isn’t this also stated in Law No. 10 of 2009
concerning Tourism? Tourism must be able to preserve, educate and provide
economic benefits, which in turn will achieve community welfare.
Does the community as a subject and
object of tourism development already feel this? The answer can be yes or no;
if you are actively involved in tourism then all parties will feel the benefits.
If not? Then tourism is not felt to be beneficial. In-depth research is very
important to know how much the benefits have been felt by the community. Check
out the results of our research in Google Scholar I Nyoman Sudiarta.
The Sustainable Tourism Destination
Model
If the readers were confronted with
a discourse, has the concept of sustainable tourism development been
implemented? Moreover, how are the results? These questions are very difficult
to answer or may also be very easy. It is easy because the answer is
"we've done it because we want to benefit from the tourism industry. Alternatively,
others say I am not dependent on tourism; I still have another potential for us
to work on as an economic resource. The concept of sustainable tourism
development implies that development that utilizes the potential of tourism, as
an economic source must provide sustainable benefits. That the benefits are not
just today but can be felt by future generations. It implies that the
development of tourism must apply the concept of maintaining, educating and
utilizing it for the well-being of humanity. Why do I submit a destination
tourism model? Because a tourism destination is a product that can be sold by
adopting a sustainable concept. Tourism destinations must be developed by
utilizing and preserving the environment as a tourist attraction. Utilizing
social and cultural potential as a cultural attraction and developing this
potential has sustainable economic value.
Two models of tourism destinations
that are currently and in the future can be developed are digital-based tourism
alliances or # digital tourism destinations whose market share is actually
millennials and those who feel millennials live without being digital do not
yet enjoy life. Second, is the #healthy tourism destination COVID 19 pandemic
turning the plague into a blessing? The plague is time to build a new image for
tourism destinations to morph into a new #entity as a health tourism
destination. Anyone can visit both young and old including retired citizens
around the world. Even the digital nomad is currently warm news and another
more relaxed and inexpensive travel connoisseurs named backpackers or flashpackers.
Where are we really located? Tourism
business people, the answer is who will be chosen as the target market or
target market and what kind of products will be sold. The concept of tourism
development has given signs to run it. Like the signs in dealing with COVID 19,
how will new normal be run? The answer is I am ready to go into a new business
that will benefit the current and future generations. #Welcome Sustainable
Tourism Destination
