Biografi

My name is Putu Oka Yuli Nurhesti, I was born in a very beautiful village in Tegallalang, Gianyar Bali. I am the eldest of four siblings. My father and mother are both elementary school teachers. Since childhood, my parents always taught me to study hard, work hard and never skip school hours. We even went to a different elementary school than where my parents taught. They don't want me to feel like someone is protecting me if we do something wrong at school.

I went through elementary school, middle school, and high school with the best possible learning. I also continued my Bachelor's education at Gadjah Mada University. This step was followed by my two younger sisters. We felt the lecture of three at Gadjah Mada University with a different semester. While my youngest brother continued his education at Udayana University. Many life experiences that I get by living in Yogya. Successfully graduating with a Bachelor degree and profession on time with the title cumlaude and even I was the best graduate was a matter of pride for me. Many offers from foundations, nursing schools and companies are waiting for us when we get down from Graha Sabha Pramana at graduation. I am proud to be one of the alumni at this large campus. But the most interesting offer is of course from the alma mater itself

Being offered to be a teaching staff in the Nursing Study Program of FK UGM was a rare opportunity at that time. I accept the offer. My parents and younger siblings fully support my decision to work in Yogya with one condition from you; that I have to marry a Balinese. Eventually I married a Balinese and continued to live in Yogya as a lecturer at UGM.

Everything went according to my wishes. Studying anything is very fun for me. Being a UGM lecturer taught me to be idealistic, have integrity, accept differences, prioritize ethics and learn multitasking. UGM's blue campus taught me how to become an educator, researcher, and community servant as I learned to be a parent. I also received many important beliefs on campus including being entrusted to be the Head of the Surgical Medical Nursing Department and the Merapi Standby Team

That morning the earthquake shook Yogyakarta, as the Merapi alert team thought I might be a volcanic earthquake, I immediately went to the market to buy kitchen supplies. On the road I ran into a lot of ambulances from the south that brought earthquake victims to Dr. Sardjito General Hospital. From there I knew this was a tectonic earthquake not volcanic. I immediately went home cooking and preparing food, my husband was also closed by his office because of the earthquake, and because it was Saturday, the person who helped look after my child who was only 3 months old was also released.

After saying goodbye to my husband and son, who were only 3 months old, I drove my motorbike to Dr. Sardjito Hospital directly to the disaster management center, directly handling so many patients who came in different conditions due to the earthquake. That same day I got a call from the campus that the Faculty of Medicine was the post of treatment for earthquake patients, because Sardjito Hospital was full. One room that is my responsibility is the old microbiology room which at the time treated 25 patients. I coordinated the maintenance activities assisted by several lecturers and students. At 9 pm I just made time to go home to breastfeed my child and rest because tomorrow morning I had to go to the treatment room again. I will never forget this experience.

Nearly 11 years in Yogya, my younger siblings have graduated, returned to Bali and worked in Bali. My parents said I should go home and live in Bali. Finally I returned to Bali and worked at Udayana University. All valuable lessons and life experiences in Yogya were very useful for me to work at Udayana University, although of course with many adjustments. But the main thing that I got was that I became closer to my parents and family.
