Biografi
His name is I Wayan Gede Jayanegara, born in Denpasar on February 29th, 1964. He was born to a mother who worked in the market selling fruit and Hindu ceremonial equipment in the morning and continued to open traditional culinary stalls in the afternoon. His father was a civil servant, worked as an Elementary School Teacher, with the last career as the principal of SDN no. 4 Denpasar, an elementary school in Denpasar. He is the fifth child of seven siblings, two younger sisters , and four older siblings (consisting of two sisters, two brothers). He is married to a midwife and is currently gifted with 3 children (a boy and two girls).
During his study in elementary school ( SDN no. 4 Denpasar ), he experienced a hard shock in the family. While in the third grade of Elementary School, his beloved mother was very ill, which eventually passed away. This condition happened suddenly and all families felt lost and depressed. All families are very unacceptable for his mother's leaving, especially him and his two younger siblings who are still young and have not yet gone to school. But fortunately, this condition has gradually improved due to his father's hard work and his grandfather's help to took care of them. The spirit for life recovered immediately, even stronger. There is an unforgettable moral message ("Helping, Serving, and Treating others sincerely and selflessly is very noble and can make people happy"). He always tried hard to study to be able to continue his further education at his favorite public junior high school. Then he continued his studies at SMP N 1 Denpasar. In junior high school, his school's achievements did not disappoint, he even got a scholarship. After completing junior high school, he continued his education at SMA N 1 Denpasar, one of his favorite high schools. During his high school education, he prepared himself to continue his studies at the Medical Faculty. It is because since he was a child, he had always wanted to become a doctor who could help and heal others (memories of deep trauma when his mother died because of illness). That strong intention yielded extraordinary results, he was accepted into three Universities. He was accepted into the Faculty of Medicine at two universities, Udayana University and Airlangga University. Besides that, he was also accepted at Mahasaraswati University in the Faculty of Dentistry. His family decided to choose to continue his education in the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University, based on the considerations of economic conditions, family situations, and all other aspects . In the end, he was able to complete his medical education at Udayana University.
After completing medical education, he was then accepted as a Civil Servant with the first placement requiring him to be in a very remote area, to serve for only 2 years, so that he could quickly plan to continue his education. The existing formations were only in eastern Indonesia, namely East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Sulawesi, Maluku, and West Irian. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) becomes his choice due to transportation and the distance that is closest to Bali compared to the other option. Finally leaving with his Central PNS Decree in hand, his first placement based on the NTT Governor's Decree was at the Eban Health Center, located in Eban Village, West Miomaffo District, North Central Timor Regency (TTU), East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT). Then a year later there was an opportunity to get out of the very remote mountain peak of Eban because there was a vacancy at the Sasi Community Health Center in Kefamenanu (TTU Capital City). His tenure was filled with various community health service activities based on the Puskesmas. During his tenure, many cases were found in the field of eye health so he was interested in continuing his education as an ophthalmologist. During his stay at the Sasi Public health center, he was also selected as the temporary official head of the health department, when the Head of the health department was not there. An unforgettable experience as long as he was the temporary official head of the health department was the arrival of the "Dharmais" Mobile Cataract Team from the Central Perdami. He had to prepare a large number of cataract patients, so he had to coordinate with all health centers to collect all cataract patients at North Central Timor. Prepared the room that will be used for mass surgery, and participate in the Preop and Postop activities of the Mass Cataract operation. Armed with limited knowledge and experience in the field of eyes, at that time he got very much enlightenment. At the end of this activity, there is a very spectacular incident that he experienced. While participating in post-cataract surgery examinations, almost all of the patients are able to see again, which makes the patient and their family shocked, touched, and happy because of the patient that was previously almost blind, now they can see again. He felt very happy when he took the team back to the airport, all were very happy because the activity was able to take place successfully and with very good results. He remembered the moral message from his father, "Helping, Serving, and Treating others sincerely and unconditionally is very noble and can make many people happy."
He completed the compulsory civil service period for 2 years and determinedly chose to continue the test in the field of eye health at the end of 1993. He was successfully accepted as a candidate for ophthalmologist at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, starting education in 1994. He is the first Balinese who got the opportunity to study at the Ophthalmology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia / RSCM. The Ophthalmologist education can be completed in approximately 4 years. After completing his specialist education in 1998, he prepared himself for fellowship to study cataract surgery and refractive surgery and at that time advanced machines for cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) were still new. He is the second Fellow at the Jakarta Eye Center (JEC). At that time, the Jakarta Eye Center was the first and only Fellowship venue in Indonesia. He has prepared all of this to prepare him for returning to Bali, so he hopes that he will be able to help, serve, and treat many people.
In 1999, he joined the Safari team of Dharmais Cataract Operation, with a scheduled operation around Indonesia. He had participated in cataract operations in western Indonesia such as in Aceh and also in eastern Indonesia, namely in East Timor (Timor Timor was still part of Indonesia). He took advantage of this opportunity to increase flight hours in cataract operations from various degrees of cataract turbidity and various tribes. This is a very valuable experience.
The request to change the status of civil servants from RSCM / faculty of medicine, the University of Indonesia to RSUP Sanglah / faculty of medicine, Udayana University was finally granted. Since 2000, He gets ready to start at the Sanglah Hospital in the Ophthalmology Department. The greetings from colleagues at the Ophthalmology department was very good, together to build the Ophthalmology department. He helped them with cataract operations with the latest technologically advanced surgical techniques and machines (Phacoemulsification machines), so that they could greatly help improve the vision of patients with a quick recovery period. He always remembered his father's moral message which he always tries to apply in his daily life and everywhere.
The plan to form the forerunner of the Ophthalmology Study Program has begun to be prepared together, with enthusiasm, hard work, and good cooperation from all colleagues in the Ophthalmology Department. Since 2000, he began to link to the Ophthalmology study program at faculty of medicine at the University of Indonesia / RSCM , in completing the requirements to be able to open an Ophthalmology Study Program in Bali. At the beginning of the opening of the Ophthalmology study program at faculty of medicine in the Udayana University / RSUP Sanglah Eye and began to receive Resident, it was still under FK-UI / RSCM Ophthalmology Study Program. So that at the end of the Resident's education period, he still had to go to Jakarta to equip himself so that he could later be a good and professional Eye Specialist, but still as a University of Indonesia eye specialist (opthalmologist) graduate. Thanks to the perseverance, enthusiasm, hard work, and good cooperation continuously, from all colleagues and staff of the Eye Department in Faculty of Medicine in Udayana University / RSUP Sanglah as well as the non-stop guidance from the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Indonesia / RSCM Eye Study Program, Finally Udayana University Eye Study Program / RSUP Sanglah can independently receive, educate and complete its own Eye Specialist with all the complete processes in Bali. And now it is growing very rapidly, as we can see now, which is already one of the most favorite study programs. Hopefully, these whole things could "Help, Serve and Treat others, and can make us all happy"
