Biografi
My name is Dewa Gede Wirama. I was
born in 1964, one day before Christmas. I am currently a lecturer in the
Accounting Department of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Udayana
University.
My
choice of profession came out “accidentally.” During my college years, I taught
English for high-and junior high-school students. With borrowed textbooks, I
may add. It was just to make some money. However, the teaching experience did
something to me that I decided to pursue a teaching job. Combined with the wish
to live at home, in Bali, I applied for a teaching position with the Udayana
University. I started in 1991.
I
was graduated from Gadjah Mada University in 1990. Two years later, in 1992, I
went to the University of Colorado at Boulder for my master degree, which I
received in 1994. I was enrolled in a doctoral program at the Airlangga
University in 2000, but I, for some reasons, decided to abandon the program in
2003. In the same year, I restarted my doctoral work with Gadjah Mada
University, which I completed in 2008.
To
me, teaching is about making sure that the students become better persons. Aside
from learning the school of knowledge of their choices, students must be taught
of critical thinking and provided some moral compass. At the end of the day,
they must understand that making a morally acceptable decision is always a
better option.
