Biografi
I, I Gusti Ayu Manuati Dewi, are the youngest of eight siblings. Above me, there are three sisters and four brothers. We, come from a large family. My father, the late I Gusti Ngurah Pindha, was born in Denkayu, Badung Regency, with five siblings, while my mother, I Gusti Ayu Menuh Suhaeni, who was born in Singaraja City, Buleleng Regency, had 11 siblings. If added up, I have more than 60 cousinsscattered throughout Bali and the archipelago because of assignments or following husband/wife/family in other areas. Some of them even live abroad or have become foreign citizens. One of my brothers married a woman from Australia and one of my nephews married a man from England, while another married with a Greek man. Therefore, relatives often refer to our family as a Global Family.
I was born in Denpasar on Friday, April 27, 1962. Only my oldest sister and I were born in Bali, while six of my other siblings were born in Ujung Pandang when our father served there as Head of Port. Even though I am the youngest, there is no such thing as a spoiled child in our family because my father was a member of the Indonesian National Army. We are accustomed to daily life that is disciplined. We wake up in the morning, study, do our daily chores, worship, etc. We run according to the "rules" and "agreements" that have been determined previously. Even though when we were immature, these rules felt a bit "pushy", the wisdom we can take is that this habit has become our daily life. The ordinary life of discipline, "timeliness" is one of the values of life that I hold to date, both in my family and at work.
I took education from Kindergarten to undergraduate program in Denpasar. I became an alumnus of the Kindergarten Kusuma Udayana Denpasar (graduated in 69), Denpasar 5th Elementary School (graduated in 1974), Denpasar 1 Junior High School (graduated in 1978), Denpasar 1 High School (graduated in 1981 ), and the Faculty of Economics, Udayana University / FEB Unud (graduated in 1986). After graduating and holding a Bachelor of Economics (Dra.) In 1986, I also worked at a Management Consultant company for about two years before applying and finally returned to the alma mater because I was accepted as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business (then still called the Faculty of Economics) Udayana University in 1988. How proud I felt at that time because from my childhood my dream was to become a teacher (maybe because I like to talk, especially in public). My father and mother also seemed happy because they aspired their sons/daughters to work as Civil Servants who at that time were still the ideal work of the graduates. Of the eight siblings, four of us work as Civil Servants, the others work in private companies or self-employed in the field of entrepreneurship.
After about six years of service as a lecturer, I applied for the AusAID Scholarship from the Australian Government to continue my Masters' degree. Through several stages of the test, finally, in 1994 I was accepted and received a scholarship to study a master program at the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Flinders University of South Australia located in the City of Flinders, State of South Australia. The course I took was Population and Human Resource Development. I completed this study in exactly two years and degree of Master of PopHumRes received in 1996. The experience I learned from this master's study is not only related to academic fields, but also non-academic areas such as culture, social life, and living habits in everyday Australian society. This experience automatically enriched my insight which later became a provision in carrying out the duties and responsibilities at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Udayana University.
Ten years after winning a master's degree, I wanted to continue my doctoral studies. My choice fell on the Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gajah Mada University (FEB-UGM) Yogyakarta. I chose UGM because this university is among the best universities in Indonesia. The course I chose was Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management because I wanted to develop and deepen the science of Human Resource Development that I obtained in Australia. In 2013 I completed my doctoral degree with the dissertation entitled "Antecedents and Consequences of Work-Family-Culture Conflict". Although my study time at FEB-UGM was relatively long, I enjoyed the Teaching-Learning Process that took place. I feel strengthened especially in the field of Research Method, which became a very valuable provision in conducting research and writing further scientific work after I was assigned back to FEB Unud.
Being active in organizations and exercising is my hobby. When I was in junior high school until I was studying at the undergraduate level, I was active in school and student organizations. In the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS) at the Middle School and High School, I sit as the Head of the Sports Section, while at the Student Senate Organization at the Faculty of Economics I act as the Secretary-General. Besides, I am also active in activities outside of school organizations such as FKPPPI (Retired Youth Communication Forum of Indonesia). In this organization, I act as General Treasurer. In sports activities, I often take part in competitions as runners and long jump athletes and not infrequently come out as champions. Until now, sports activities have become my daily life to keep my body healthy and mind always clear.
The proud thing that I was able to achieve at school was that I always won first class (from the top three) from elementary school to high school. When I was in High School I became a General Champion. Until now, I still keep the certificate or award certificate as class winner in my "Securities" Folder on our home bookshelf. I often show this folder to our children and our grandchildren now for their motivation to study hard if they want to achieve their goals later.
I married I Gusti Made Agung Priatna from Denpasar City in 1986. My husband works as an entrepreneur and also comes from a large family of 6 siblings. In contrast to my husband and I who come from large families, we only have a son named I Gusti Agung Bagus Magha Bojana. He also graduated from the Undergraduate Program at Udayana University, precisely from the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering. Following in my footsteps, he also took his Masters in Australia, University of Technology Sydney, graduating in 2012. Actually, after graduating, we wanted him to apply as a Civil Servant or lecturer, but he seemed more interested in the business world, following in his father's footsteps. Until now he seems busy with the property and garment business he manages.
At present I have been serving at FEB Unud for 32 years with the rank of Pembina Tingkat I, Golongan IV/ b, and the position of Lektor Kepala. My target going forward is to take care of the promotion to Professor. The addition of the number of Professors in Higher Education Institutions in addition to self-employment for teaching staff also has a positive impact on the development and strengthening of institutions in terms of Human Resources. Hopefully, these ideals have the blessing of Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa, God Almighty. Swaha.
