Biografi

Born in 1988 in Denpasar, Bali, Putu Ratih Pertiwi has served as a lecturer, now an Assistant Professor, at the Faculty of Tourism, Universitas Udayana since 2014. Holds a Doctorate in Tourism (2019–2023) from the École Doctorale Sociétés, Temps, Territoires, Université d’Angers, France. Through a comparative qualitative case study grounded in constructivist epistemology, the doctoral thesis examined homestays in Ubud and Blimbingsari, advancing understanding of community-based and sustainable tourism in rural contexts and showing how spiritual and cultural values shape locally defined sustainability while challenging universal models.


Previously completed a Double Degree Master’s in Tourism Studies (2011–2013) at the Postgraduate Program, Faculty of Tourism, Universitas Udayana, and at UFR ESTHUA Tourisme et Culture, Université d’Angers, France. The master’s thesis on Penglipuran Traditional Village highlighted how community participation supports sustainable rural tourism through governance, traditional architecture, and eco-friendly practices. Also earned a Bachelor of Applied Hotel Administration from the Bali Tourism Institute (2006–2010).


Professional experience spans both academia and hospitality, including internships at Hard Rock Hotel Bali (2008), Grand Hyatt Singapore (2008), The Kayana Seminyak Bali (2009–2011), and a lecturing role at the Institut Pariwisata dan Bisnis Internasional (Institute of Tourism and International Business), Bali (2011). Also contributed as Translator for the International Labour Organization/ILO (2014), assisting local communities in Tabanan, Bali, during eco-tourism training workshops under the ASEAN Small Business Competitiveness Programme.


At Universitas Udayana, academic service and administrative responsibilities include Head (2016–2018) and Secretary (2018–2019) of the Bar Laboratory of the Faculty of Tourism, Head of the Quality Assurance Implementation Team for the Bachelor of Applied Hotel Management Study Program (2023–present), Member of the Faculty Cooperation Unit Team (2024), and Secretary of the International Cooperation Unit Team (2025–present).


Focuses on sustainable tourism, rural tourism, tourist villages, and local accommodation—particularly homestays—with emphasis on community empowerment and locally grounded models of sustainability. Involved in academic activities for over a decade, with extensive experience in teaching, research, collaboration, and community service.
