Biografi
My name is Ngurah Intan Wiratmini. I was born on 28th of February 1968 at Singaraja City, Buleleng Regency, Bali, where I completed my early education of kindergarten until senior high school. Upon completing my study at SMAN 1 Singaraja High School in 1987, I decided to major in biology at Udayana University, Denpasar, Bali.
I was interested in pursuing biology because it’s fascinating to observe natural phenomenon that occurs in living things—there are so much things that you can learn from the universe and everything in it. I chose microbiology, particularly the pathogen Salmonella thypii infecting lemuru fish sold in traditional markets, as the topic for my undergraduate thesis, after which I graduated as Bachelor of Biology in 1992 after 4.5 years of study. I started my career as a lecturer at Department of Biology Udayana University in December 1994, where I was assigned by the Head of Department to laboratory of animal structure and development. I was in charge of several courses including animal histology, animal embryology, as well as animal teratology and comparative anatomy.
In 1999, I was accepted by Postgraduate Program of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) as a student of master program as well as an awardee of DIKTI scholarship. I specialized in cell biology and animal development and took biotechnology of reproduction as my research topic, particularly the characterization of proteins that make up the zona pellucida of rat (Rattus tanezumi) egg cells by using RT-PCR. Later, the result was sequenced at Eijkman Institution Jakarta. This study was a part of research project to develop immunocontraception conducted by one of my supervisors. I completed my study in 2002 as a Master of Science (M.Si).
Upon completing my master degree, I resumed my lecturing at Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Udayana University. Several years after that, I was able to put together a new course intended for students who were interested in zoology, namely animal organogenesis and animal histopathology.
In 2011, I decided to pursue my doctorate degree at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Postgraduate Program of Udayana University. It was my first experience of studying an applied science, and it gave me an insight of how a pure science of biology could contribute to solve problems in the field of animal husbandry. I specialized in physiology of animal nutrition, biotechnology of reproduction (artificial insemination, embryo transfer, etc.) which further improved my level of competence. I completed my study in 2015, with a research topic of utilization of plants containing anti-nutrient factors as dietary source to improve the development of mammary gland secretory cells in Rattus argentiventer.
After completing my doctorate degree, aside from resuming my lecturing at Undergraduate Program of Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Udayana University, I started to give lectures for the students of master degree at the same faculty with the topics of biology of animal development, structure and function of organism, as well as technology of animal reproduction. Aside from lecturing and mentoring students, I actively conduct several researches. My interest of study is animal structure and development, as well as biology of animal reproduction.
