It was my childhood dream to become a scientist as I learned in elementary school about the incredible intelligence of Einstein and the wisdom of Socrates that insert inevitable change in every part of human life throughout generation. Nevertheless, even as I grew older when I practiced medicine as general practitioner after graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University in 2005, I felt short in understanding the gravity of the term being a scientist. I grasped slightly better understanding in the complexity of science as I studied Doctorale program in Okayama University, Japan when I experienced in first hand the intricate way of thinking to build a scientific arguments and working unrelenting to collect valid and reliable data from scratch to prove those arguments or just to prove it otherwise. It was an exhausting scientific journey that I aboard only with firm belief that any findings were meaningful to move forward with the original thoughts or with the new one. I realized that a moment of failure was a stepping stone to progress not to regress even the circumstance was so depressing. I have learned the term of grit, uncoupling consistency and persistence of thinking and working objectively based on data and facts. Importantly, I also learned the value of collaborative work to achieve common goal in a scientific research. Those are the building blocks of my scientific approach to contribute  in advancement of science and be a part of scientific community that rely heavily in intellectual honesty and respect. Till this present time, I am still in searching for the true meaning of being a scientist by continuously researching the biomarker of disease especially related to  inflammation, infection and cancer.
