STRATEGIC POLICIES AND ACTIVITIES FOR IMPROVING PERFORMANCE OF EDUCATIONAL STAFF IN ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGY RESIDENCY PROGRAMME FACULTY OF MEDICINE, UDAYANA UNIVERSITY

Each work unit needs to implement performance management to manage the performance of its human resources, starting from planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing staff performance. This performance management is a strategic and integrated approach so that it can provide optimal work results towards the work unit’s goals, by developing team and individual abilities. In this case there is a process of cooperation between the leader or coordinator and staff objectively.
In the Anatomical Pathology Residency Programme, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, there are 12 lecturers and 2 educational staff who are tasked with assisting in the administration process of resident education. In carrying out various teaching and learning tasks, the lecturer staffs are under the coordination of the Head of the Department, while the educational staffs are under the coordination of the Study Program Coordinator.
To achieve the stated goals of education, performance management is also applied, which aim to:
1. Motivating the educational staff to be willing and able to optimize the quality and quantity of work based on certain targets that are the goals of the study program, without giving burdensome pressure or beyond the ability of staff.
2. Assisting educational staff in exploring the knowledge and skills needed tobe more efficient in doing their work to jointly achieve the goals of study program.
3. Optimizing the two-way communication system between Study Program Coordinator and education staff so as to increase their roles and responsibilities towards work, so as to provide systemic and transparent feedback.
4. Identifying problems that can hinder the performance of the educational staff, making it easier to find solutions.
5. Creating rules that can be used as a basis for strategic planning, succession planning, promotion and compensation, based on the performance of the educational staff itself.
6. Improve and develop the potential of the educational staff in pursuing careers by providing appropriate knowledge and skills, so as to improve work performance, both individually and in teams, which in turn can increase work productivity.
To improve the performance of the educational staff, a number of things are carried out, including:
1. Provide reward and punishment, so that they feel valued if they excel and do not repeat mistakes if they neglect their duties.
2. Training for education staff.
3. Establish a clear vision and mission, so that educationalstaff know the rules of work, work methods, and clear employment contracts.
4. Structured division of labor, so that each has clear responsibilities
5. Always show high dedication, so that they can provide an example for educational staff
6. Objective evaluation of work after the achievement of performance targets, and the results are used as feedback to provide performance appraisals that can be used as material for consideration of future performance improvements
