Introduction
This episode presents a story
that is familiar to Balinese ears, namely the story of PedandaBaka, a person
who pretends to be pious but in fact is not. There is evil intent hidden behind
his innocence for the sake of self. Pretending to be a saint with an all-white
robe, soft words as sweet as honey, and his wise advices to cover his
rottenness, like a wolf in sheep's clothing. This is the story of a man
pretending to be holy finally perishing because of his crimes. The following is
presented the translated text in Indonesian.
Episode 5: The Crane
Dies of His Greed
It is said that there is a pond
that is beautiful, nothing can match its beauty, because its existence is
priceless. The fish are very much, especially the abundant shrimp, they are
having fun, playing here and there in the pond. The lotuses were in full bloom,
fragrant, surrounded by beetles. Many of the flowers fell by the beetle. It is
very amazing for people who seek beauty.
Now it is told of a crane who is very greedy, he is skilled at making tricks to control all the fish, because it is the food (main) of the crane. That is why the crane makes tricks, changes his appearance, his behavior is gentle, like a capable priest, wears earrings, wears a crown, wears a prayer beads, wears a white cloth, looks very clean (holy), like the most holy person those who cannot lie, obey the taboo. There then the crane pretended to be pious, with a gentle demeanor, standing by the pool pretending to concentrate, like a person who really understands the highest knowledge, recites the Veda, and all the worship prayers. But its main purpose is for trickery, therefore, not just once or twice the fish swam closer to the crane. Finally, they all gathered in front of the crane. If the crane wants, of course he can eat a lot of fish. But the stork's expression was indifferent as if it didn't want to eat it. That is why all the fish do not think that the crane has changed its mind, it does not want to eat fish. Therefore, all the fish dared to approach the crane, the more so there were those who dared to ask questions, ask the reason, unlike other cranes. The crane answered:
"For your question to me, this is the story. I have stopped indulging in lust, because I have practiced a priesthood, I am willing to (can) dissolve all bad deeds. What I deepen is only wholesome behavior as it is called paramartha "
All the fish said at the same time: “It is true that my master said that. Second, if my lord is pleased I also intend to carry out the truth. In short, I want to serve (learn) to my lord, a noble priest. ”
Hearing such words, the crane smiled as he said sweetly: “Well, if so, everything you say is very true. I'm just telling you, the behavior of people born into the world is what you all wish. But must obey all the good or bad. You should always strive for good, never without the truth, which must always be done, because that is the means of overcoming the world's poison. If this is the case, surely you will all succeed in bringing together the rwabhinneda, as a path as you wish. Do it every day, don't get it wrong, concentrate your mind, so you don't wander. Besides, to be clear by you to the bottom of your heart. If so, that is called kanirmalan (holiness). Apart from that, the behavior of people studying, all the teacher's words must not be rejected (refuted), so that they are not qualified ”. There then all the fish agreed, because all were blind to knowledge, all bowed down in honor, obeying all the words of the crane.
No matter how long the fish
served the crane, everyone obeyed the crane's words, no one doubted it anymore,
because their faith was strong, everyone's hearts were happy, there was no
gloom, every day enjoying the beauty of the lotus flower. All kinds of fish
flock, swimming in the pool with pleasure. Seeing all that, he was happy that
PedandaBaka (the crane), while thinking, all fish had been tricked. Then the
stork approached, stood on the edge of the pond, frowning like a person in
distress, his face wistful with tears. All the fish were surprised, saw the
crane crying, then all turned slowly, and asked why the crane was sad and
crying, this is how he said: " Yes, pastor, why do you cry? ”. The crane
answered while complaining, her tears were flowing, she cried incessantly, her
voice faltered due to sobbing: “In essence, the reason is that you are like
this, because you are very sorry for you all. Just now you all enjoyed
(happiness) together with your relatives, happy playing in the middle of this
pool, making my father's heart happy to see him, and his love for all of you in
friendship. Earlier my father heard real news, said the fishman to his friends,
and had agreed to find fish here, in order to bring scatter, nets, sau, anco,
sara, bubu and incir. In addition, to bring poison to be spread in this pool.
He said he would also bring a cart to load the fish in this pond. He said he'd
come here soon, and didn't forget to bring supplies and spices. The agreement
is made up, three more days will come here. It all became my father's thought
if this was true. If you really come here, it will certainly run out with all
of your relatives, the water is shredded and thrown away. Oh God, apparently
God did not bless, broke the rope of your father's love, as you are friends
with all of you, now you have absolutely no power. At that moment all the fish
were very sad in heart, as if they were about to cry, very painful (heart),
saying:
"Yes, noble pastor, in this situation
please continue with noble sincerity (to help him), such as reviving (reviving)
all my relatives, with a noble heart, so that all may be saved. Servants are
all waiting for the pastor's help here ”.
Therefore, the crane was very happy and pretended to think about finding a way out, then said: "Hi, you fish all of them. If you want to be like that, according to my father there is a way like this. If I'm not mistaken, my father had seen a pool with very clear water called the Andawana pool, which belonged to SanghyangRudra. Regarding its beauty there is no such thing as a name, because it has never been touched by humans at all, and the fish cannot be eaten. Well, that's it if you all want to live, my father is trying to move (you) from here, take him to that pool. Don't be suspicious. If you lie, let your father get a curse ”. Those who were invited to speak like they were amazed, everyone listened, their hearts were happy (and) obeyed as he said. It is true that all the fish are ignorant and do not know tricks, simultaneously saying to be transferred to the Andawana pond. Because he had already agreed, then one by one he was bitten and then flown away, and brought to the top of the mountain. There was a flat stone where the crane ate fish everyday, until almost all the fish in the Kumudasara pond were used up, because every day they were brought to the top of the mountain.
Now it is told that only the crab is still in the Kumudasara pond, because it lives behind the boulder. The crab approached the crane, asking for help, he said: "Yes, my lord, if the noble priest is kind, the last servant, please take him to the Andawana pond". In short, it was said that the crab had been flown to the top of the mountain, he saw a lot of fish bones, then he thought:
"Oh, it turns out that we eat it here. How evil the crane, pretending to be pious. I guessed not wrong first ". Immediately the crab was very angry as he said: "Hey you stork, do not ever let me down here, take me to a pond where the water is clear!".While saying this, pinched the crane hard. There then the crane looked embarrassed because his trick was discovered, not expecting the crab's anger. Then she cried, begging for mercy, her body trembling, her expression suddenly dull. These were the words of the crane asking for mercy: "Yes, my lord, let it go, so that my master will forgive all my mistakes. I want to take my master back there to the Kumudasara pond. Servant realizes my mistake. Don't be angry my master! ”. The crab was then flown back to the Kumudasara pool. The stork said pitifully: "My lord, don't pinch it so hard, let go of my neck!". Immediately the pting said harshly: "Ah, I don't want to, take me to my place first!" Arriving at the Kumudasara pond, then with all his might pinched the crane's neck until the crane died. This is the result of people who behave badly, are not loyal to friends.
Conclusion
Such is the story of
greed that ends in death, does not produce anything. You should also be careful
of people who look innocent, pretend to be pure even though their hearts are
rotten. What a behavior that should not be imitated.
