This
article discusses Anak Agung Bagus Sutedja, who was inaugurated as Governor of
Bali in 1959 but was abducted in Jakarta in 1966. More specifically, it
explores the process through which he has been forgotten by the general
Balinese community and the specific campus community of Udayana University—in
the establishment of which, ironically, he played an important role. This
article argues that the process of forgetting cannot be separated from the
dominant narratives since the 1965 tragedy, as well as the complexities of
past events, the disclosure of which could implicate many parties.
