Penatalaksanaan Guillain-Barre syndrome di ICU - Sebuah laporan kasus

Abstrak
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) with characteristic ascending paralysis is an acute flaccid type paralysis with varying severity from mild to severe which can be life-threatening due to respiratory failure, so in some cases, physician must give special attention to the patients. GBS has not yet known exactly the cause but it is believed that the underlying mechanism is autoimmune, so that in its management it is symptomatic and removes antibodies and suppresses the immune system. In this report we present the case of a 40-year-old man with GBS. Patients experience respiratory muscle weakness so that need intensive care and mechanical ventilation support. In the management, patient received plasmapharesis and corticosteroid therapy, and the patient get improvement after almost 3 weeks of treatment in the ICU.
