Art activity has been extensively researched can be useful in neurocognitive function. However, studies of the role of painting activity on neurocognitive function are limited. Kamasan Wayang Kamasan (SLWK) is a Balinese culture that has a detailed pattern, rich in color, and made by Kamasan people from generation to generation. This activity is predicted to have a positive contribution to neurocognitive function. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the correlation between painting activity and neurocognitive function in elderly SLWK painter in Kamasan village. The cross-sectional analytic study was conducted on November-December 2017 in Kamasan village, Bali. More than 65 years old painters who have been painting for more than a year are recruited as research subjects. Structured interviews were conducted to determine sociodemographic characteristics, painting activity, and neurocognitive function assessed with Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) against 41 subjects. The results obtained 65.8% female and 34.2% male. The average duration of painting was 42.39 ± 16.67 years. The mean score of MMSE was 26.12 ± 0.38. Research subjects who have been painting for 1-50 years and over 50 years of age had normal neurocognitive function. The three painting groups (canvas preparation, drawing, and coloring) mostly also had normal neurocognitive function. The drawing group got the highest MMSE average in visuospatial, registration, and language; coloring was best in memory and attention; and canvas preparation was excellent in orientation. The correlation test results obtained between painting activity and neurocognitive function have positive correlation with very strong correlation strength (r = 0.789, p <0.05). The conclusion is the longer duration of painting the better cognitive function.
