Abstrak
Delay of treatment to the hospital by a breast cancer patient contributes to the mortality and low life expectancy for people with the disease. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors related to delayed treatment in women with breast cancer. This study used longitudinal descriptive study by conducting a questionnaire-base interviews during six months from March to September 2015 to patient with advance breast cancer (IIB, IIIA, IIIB, IIIC, IV) which conduct in Sanglah General Hospital Denpasar. Among 77 patients who observed had mean age of 47.39±10.2 years. With 31.2% are at the high school level/equivalent, 26% came from outside Bali and 24.7% come from Denpasar. Approximately 29.9% of respondents delay of treatment in a span of >6-12 months. Seventy-four percent did not know about breast self examination, and respondents who interpret symptom as something not serious is about 64.9%. While 50.6% respondents expressed fear of surgery and chemotherapy. Health insurance is owned by 63.6% and 70.1 % said they had tried alternative treatment. This study concludes that the delayed treatment in breast cancer patients is related to several factors. There needs to be an effective outreach to the community about the symptom, prognosis, therapy, and breast cancer screening to minimize delays in treatment.
