Abstrak

This book aims at providing introduction of English morphology for the students of the English Department, Faculty of Arts, Udayana University. The book consists of four chapters covering (1) morphology and the scope of morphology, (2) English word formation, (3) interface between morphology and phonology as well as syntax, and (4) morphology typology. Chapter 1 discusses fundamental concept of morphology and the scope of the study of morphology. Chapter 2 provides information about how the English words are formed, and the functions of English affixes. Chapter 3 provides explanation about interface between morphology and phonology, and morphology and syntax because those fields interact one to the other. The last chapter 4, discusses morphology typology. This book is completed with exercises fot the students to practise. The exercises were taken from Gleason (1961), i.e. to analyze data of some language, in Gleason's workbook by applying the theory of morphology. The goal of the exercises is to support the theoretical construct applied in practice. In addition, exercises are also provided in this book, alongside questions presented in each chapter. The teachers will choose problems from Gleason's workbook or invent their own.
