The 21st century has seen a rapid growth of large collection of electronic language database, such as language corpora, and of the use of computational and quantitative methods to help address linguistic research questions based on such massive language database. Given this interrelated development, coding/computing and quantitative skills are of paramount importance for students and researchers in language sciences/linguistics, not only for keeping up with the development to do the research but also for understanding others' work. R programming language is a popular scripting/coding language in linguistics as it provides a unified platform for conducting quantitative research and (massive) text processing. The following video is a recording of my invited talk (in Indonesian) at BIT SCHOOL, showing three use cases on the application of R for performing language-related research, namely text tokenisation including generating word frequency-list, topic modelling on four Indonesian novels, and collocation network.
