Adolescence
is a transition from childhood to adult. A young woman will experience regular
menstrual cycles every month. Every teenage girl's menstrual cycle will usually
be accompanied by pain in the lower abdominal area known as primary
dysmenorrhoea. Lower abdominal pain that accompanies menstruation can sometimes
make adolescents hampered while doing their activities, for example, it is
difficult to concentrate while studying, or even to not be able to take lessons
in school. This condition can reduce the productivity of adolescents.
Physiotherapy Health services can reduce lower abdominal pain during
menstruation by abdominal muscles stretching.
The
purpose of stretching the abdominal muscles is to provide a relaxing effect
that can reduce primary dysmenorrhoea. Stretching of the abdominal muscles
produce endorphien hormones. Endorphien hormones as a natural sedative that
produced by the brain and can reduce the pain during uterine muscle contractions
and make comfortable. Abdominal muscles stretching can do in the morning or
evening, 3 times a week for 15-30 minutes. For teens who have a normal
menstrual cycle (28-30 days) can do abdominal muscle stretching 3 days before
menstruation and for teens who have abnormal menstrual cycles, it can be done
the 3rd week after the previous menstruation for 4-5 times a week. Abdominal Stretching excercixe as follows:
Abdominal and lower back muscle stretching : Starting position: hands and knees on the floor,
hands under the shoulders, knees below the hips, feet relax, eyes staring at
the floor.
a. Back bent and the stomach is pushed towards the floor slowly so
far maybe as well as the chin and eyes staring at the floor. Hold this
condition in count of 10, count with loud noises after that relax and breathe
in.
b. Back pushed up and bring down head looked down at the floor Hold
this condition in count of 10, count with loud noise, after that relax
c. Backward sitting position in over the heel, spread out arms
forward away from body as far as possible to feel the pull Hold this condition
in 2x10 count, then relax and take a deep breath through nose and remove it by
mouth.
Next step is rotation of lower back. Initial position: Body position lying
on your back, knees bent, feet on the floor and second arms stretched out keep
away from the body.
a. The first condition is the knee bend slowly rotated to the right
stick to the floor and keep both shoulders stay on the floor with hand that keep
outward distance body Hold this condition in 2x10 count, count in a loud voice.
b. With the same position turn the knee to the left side until stick
to the defense floor You keep your shoulders close on the floor Hold this
condition in 2x10 count, count in a loud voice
c. Return to the
starting position.
Pain during
menstruation in each individual has a different, therefore the advice of the
Physiotherapist, if menstrual pain is felt can not be tolerated or accompanied
by heavy bleeding or other conditions such as vomiting and diarrhea that is please
contact your doctor.
