THE IMPACT OF INTERNET USE AND SOCIAL MEDIA FOR CHILDREN

The use of social media and the internet is very much needed for some or even almost all people. The development of the use of social media began to flourish, especially in Indonesia in the mid-2000s. But now the whole community uses the internet and social media for their daily needs. Social media seen from the positive side is to help people in obtaining information through cyberspace networks. Even to talk and meet with family friends who are far away that feels closer. While the use of the internet in addition to work needs and learning media is also a supporting tool for the use of social media.

Since the good news from the central government was revealed that the government would implement an internet program into the village, surely this good news would be a breath of fresh air for the people. In some areas in Bali already installed free internet connections into the village. This program provides a positive side for people who have limited costs to be able to access the internet and social media. But the negative side arising from social media and the internet is very impacting on children. Starting with the increasingly well-known online games that use the internet and social media are increasingly worrying. This misuse of the internet for children is increasingly felt by starting to play online games until they forget the time and various other reasons, besides the use of social media without full supervision by vulnerable parents can disrupt children's psychology and habits from an early age. The emergence of cases of bullying and violence is one of the negative effects of the use of social media. Children easily imitate what is becoming a trend among the public, without fully knowing and understanding whether the consequences arising from the spectacle and the information obtained is good or bad.

In this case the role and supervision of parents is needed to protect children from the negative impacts of internet use and social media. In addition to parental supervision, of course the environment is also one of the supporters in the development of a child's soul from an early age. With the recognition of the internet and social media by children, it will increasingly make the child farther away and do not know his environment well, starting with the lack of socializing with colleagues and friends in his environment, this can be caused because too cool children in the game online games that make children reluctant to play outside the home. The effect of the internet and social media is getting closer and closer and making children become difficult to get along with and feel less confident. In addition, social media is also vulnerable to news - news that cannot be easily accepted by children without understanding from parents or without being watched by parents. There are many more problems caused by the proliferation of social media and the internet among children. But as parents we should be able to monitor and limit children's play time with the internet and social media. In other words, there is a medium for them to be social, that is, to live well in society and to know their environment, and to live in social media that is without limiting children to analyze the outside world so that children are not outdated but remain under the supervision of parents.
