In Desember 2019, Coronavirus emerged in
Wuhan, China. WHO declared a new virus called 2019-nCoV and then officially
named SARS-CoV-2, this virus has never been identified in humans
before. On February 11, the respiratory disease that originated from the
SARS-CoV-2 infection was called COVID-19 and the virus had spread rapidly
throughout the world . (Lu et al, 2020). Symptoms
caused by the corona virus are coughing, fever, shortness of breath or can be
without symptoms (Backer et al, 2020).
The
transmission of the coronavirus can occur through droplets originating from
coughing, sneezing or when talking, personal contact such as shaking hands,
touching the mouth, nose or eyes after touching objects or surfaces that are
contaminated with the virus.
The risk of coronavirus transmission
during dental treatment procedures is very high where the transmission process
can occur through aerosols / droplets from an infected person, direct contact
with blood, saliva or body fluids, as well as indirect contact through
contaminated dental instruments (Izzetti et al , 2020).
During the covid-19 pandemic, the patient
should come to the dentist for emergency treatment. For dental patients with
fever, cough, cold and dental patients who wants to do aesthetic treatment should
reschedule the treatment and do online consultations. Some emergency conditions
that can be treated are toothache which make patients difficult to sleep,
swollen gum and bleeding. For patients who have to visit the dentist should
make an appointment first and should come alone, and if patient come with
family or friends, they can’t enter to treatment room except for pediatric
patients.
