Natah is an empty space in the middle of a Balinese housing. Natah is both an outer and inner space. I call it outer space because natah is placed outside the building. But it is also part of the Balinese house itself, where cannot be entered without permission. Therefore, natah can also be regarded as an inner space.

Judging from the beliefs of Hinduism itself, as one of the basic philosophies of Balinese Architecture, this empty concept does not mean it is unfilled. The concept of this space is the same as the concept of God in Hinduism, namely "exist and imperceptible". God is believed to be "exist" but "not seen". Thus, natah can be regarded as a multifunctional emptiness. Natah not only has a physical function as a place for certain ceremonies, but also has a non-physical function, namely as a binding of direction and center of orientation.
