PRELIMINARY

When someone is interested in thinking about pursuing postgraduate education, especially master's education at one of the universities. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the order of human life, including the desire to continue education in a higher direction. Usually he had thought about it for a long time, going back and forth was a natural thing before finally the pent-up wish would actually be realized. From knowledge and experience so far, enthusiasts may think that to become a Master of Masters one must be very brilliant, close to genius.

How not, enthusiasts often hear that a Master's Master must prove that he is able to carry out independent research, the substance of his research must be original, and must contribute to knowledge. During his years of education, he was always guided and forged by professors and masters, and had to pass various exams. Fans will feel their enthusiasm when they see that the final exam of a Master's thesis has been successful. On the other hand, he may be amazed to see the master's thesis books which are generally very thick, full of jargons that are not commonly heard in everyday life. "I don't think I can afford it," maybe that's the comment of some enthusiasts who are contemplating their master's education.

It is also often heard that joining a master's program is tantamount to entering a wilderness that will last for years, full of knick-knacks, both written and unwritten. It is not uncommon to hear how stressed a Master's candidate is when he or she faces an overly demanding supervisor. Candidates who are confused when conducting research and when analyzing and interpreting the results are also often heard. Sleep deprivation when the candidate is writing the thesis as well as facing the final exam is also common.

These stories can be improved by observing the fans that some of their seniors who originally entered the master's education program turned out to be in the middle of resigning or quitting for no apparent reason. However, they are experts in their respective fields. It is only natural that these slanted issues make enthusiasts have to reassess their interest in joining the master's program. He must consider many things as objectively as possible so that when it is finally decided to take a Master's education he is prepared for the possibility of predictable obstacles. What attitude should be taken when these obstacles come must also be anticipated.

MOTIVATION

A person's motivation to do anything has an impact on the smooth running of his activities. With a strong motivation, a person will be better prepared for everything that is needed, and will be ready to deal with any problems that arise. A person's motivation to participate in a master's program varies widely, but can be grouped into two major groups, namely individual motivation and institutional motivation.

A. Individual Motivation

Pride. This primordial motivation, which is considered that a Master's degree is a matter of pride for oneself and one's family, is recognized or not, is factual and common. An enthusiast who is a father of several children may want to be a role model for his children. Fans who come from business families want to show that pride and happiness in life can not only be obtained with money. Those who come from families of scientists want to show the continuity of the family breed, while those from families of farmers or small employees want to show that even small people really can achieve something to be proud of. All of these things are legal.

Interest in developing science. In daily observations, there are actually not a few teaching staff or other scholars who from the very beginning were very interested in science and the development of science. The motivation that is rooted purely in interest in the scientific field is considered the strongest, so that it can overcome any obstacles that stand in its way. If this root of motivation is accompanied by other motivations, it is unlikely that the applicant will give up on all the difficulties encountered during the master's education process.

Means for career development. Along with the pride motive above, motivation to join a master's program is also often associated with future career development. Government regulations that in order for someone to be proposed as a lecturer, he must hold a Master's degree can be a strong motivation for those interested in master's education.

B. Institutional Motivation

Institutions where enthusiasts work, most of them are educational institutions, of course have a strategic plan (strategic planning). In the vision and mission of the strategic plan of educational institutions it is often stated what will be achieved and how it will be achieved. One consequence of achieving this vision is the necessity to increase the quantity and quality of teaching staff. It is also common in strategic plans that there are various types of programs and activities, including human resource development programs (for example, teachers who have just received a bachelor's degree will be recommended to join a master's education program). There are also many institutions that at the time of admission of new teaching staff must include the conditions for being willing to take part in the master's program both at home and abroad. This is something that has a positive impact.
