In the beginning of 2020, we can see the increasing popularity of the Video Conferencing application due to the Covid-19 pandemic. If we look at the history of the development of virtual conferences using video tools, the concept has actually been around since the 19th century but in technology, it only can be done in the 20th century. It is easy for someone to do video conferencing even from their own homes using only a laptop computer. Previously, only certain places that were set up for this purpose could do so, and usually the costs were relatively expensive.
We Return to the popularity of the Video Conferencing application in early 2020, there are a number of very prominent applications such as Zoom, Webex, Google Meet, Skype and others. Of course this is inseparable from the efforts of some of them to facilitate communication between people during the Covid-19 pandemic which must keep their distance but must remain productive. Each of these applications has advantages and disadvantages. Because of this there are applications that can be very mainstream among users such as Zoom which also managed to shift the previous popular applications such as Skype.
There are several features of Zoom that have made it popular such as, user friendly, good User Interface, offered free even though with limitations, the lobby / breakout room, easy to use when screen sharing, and others. In addition to Zoom, there is also Webex from Cisco which was originally co-developed by the founder of the developer company of Zoom with several advantages such as the free version has a large storage for recording and without time limitation. Next there is Google Meet which has advantages, for example the desktop version only requires a browser without the need to do any installation. But of course there are also disadvantages of these applications, for example, which recently surfaced regarding the insecurity of Zoom, so the term Zoombombing appears.
If we look at all of the causes of these applications being popular during the Covid-19 pandemic, of course it is possible to experience another change after the pandemic ends. Most of these applications also clearly said that they will stop or limit the features of their free services around the middle or end of the year. What do you think about the level of popularity of this application in the future? There is a possibility of the emergence of new technology from other applications that shift the application that already exists today. As we know, the emergence of new technology in the 21st century is very fast.
