Understanding and Implementation of Constructability: Contractor’s Perspective

Currently, construction service companies are required to be innovative by finding methods, concepts, and programs to manage projects in order to achieve project objectives in terms of cost, quality, time and environment. Various approaches have been developed and used, such as constructability. The term constructability is still not popular in Indonesia, even though this program is an important aspect in the management of construction projects. Constructability is defined as the optimum use of construction knowledge and experience in the planning, design, procurement and construction process to achieve project objectives. This research was conducted on fifteen middle and upper class contractors working on projects in Badung Regency by assessing the understanding and application of constructability through four components of understanding and four components of application. Understanding component consists of understanding, benefits, principles and constructability development, as well as the influence of the constructability of project quality. Meanwhile, the implementation component consists of the company's need, resources, current implementation and documentation. All these components are linked to the twelve elements of constructability, namely integration, construction knowledge, team skills, company objectives, construction methods, accessibility, specification, construction innovation, feedback which are combined with the twelve principles of constructability.
