Trees when experiencing injury will release fluid that comes out of the trunk / bark or from the leaves of the tree called sap. Some characteristics of sap that are easily observed include: (a) insoluble in water; (b) harden when exposed to air; (c) has no primary function in growth; (d) woody plants are generally produced; and (e) is non-elastic. Tree sap is one of the non-timber forest products, which has the potential to be developed into interior materials for residences, offices and other buildings. In addition to its unlimited resources, sap is a biodegradable material that is able to be decomposed by microorganisms so it will not pollute the environment.

Natural sap that is widely available in the natural environment of the island of Bali is pine resin. We found many pine trees in the KPH of East Bali with ± 133,000 trees with an area of ​​± 136.35 Ha. Tapping pine resin can be done with a drill system on a pine tree trunk with a depth of 2 cm, pine trees that can be harvested with sap are aged trees ± average over 30 years with a circumference of ± 126 cm.

The potential for pine resin in Indonesia per hectare is 4,880 kg / year, assuming the number of pine trees per hectare is 300 - 600 trees. If it is estimated that the area of ​​pine forests in Indonesia is spread across Sumatra, Java-Bali and Sulawesi 1,126,436 Ha, it is estimated that the potential of pine resin that can be harvested is 5,497,007 kg / year.

One of the uses of pine resin is that it can be used as an adhesive in the process of making wood powder paneling. Where the resulting panel characteristics have physical and mechanical characteristics which are not much different from wood powder panel boards that use synthetic glue (PVAc). The advantage of pine wood powder is that the resources are unlimited and biodegradable so that the resulting panel can be categorized as a greencomposite panel.
