Fireflies are insects which in English are also known as firefly are insects that can emit light that is clearly visible at night. Searched from Wikipedia's online media, fireflies are included in the Lampyridae group which is a family or tribe in the beetle or Coleoptera order. There are more than 2000 types of fireflies spread in various parts of the world. Thus fireflies also have the opportunity to exist in the Village of Peliatan, Ubud. But from the writer's observation, there are challenges on how to increase its population, why aren't many fireflies found at night in the Peliatan Village area, Ubud?
From the search of a generation of old farmers in the village of Peliatan, Ubud it turns out that fireflies are insects that are found in the night in ancient times, especially many seen around rice fields. Some old figures say this, including I Nyoman Kenak (54 years) an agricultural extension worker, Anak Agung Gede Raka (87 years) retired teacher who is also a former farmer, Prof. I Wayan Suarna (animal husbandry expert and environmental observer), and Anak Agung Gde Raka Dalem (54 years), lecturer in ecotourism and environmental science, tri hita karana activist and vice chairman of the communication forum of the provincial tourism village of Bali (Forkom Dewi Bali). With the search of the older generation of farmers it was suspected that the decline in fireflies population occurred around the 1970s along with the use of pesticides in dealing with insects in rice fields. Thus the solution is explored, and inventory solutions include reducing the use of inorganic chemical pesticides in rice fields, so that the population of fireflies can increase in nature.
