The Landscape Architecture Study Program was born based on the decision of the Minister of Education and Culture (No. 111 / EO / 2013 dated 16 April 2013) and has become a member of the Indonesian Landscape Architecture Education Forum (FPALI). After seven years, the name changed to Landscape Architecture Study Program based on Kepmendikbud number 574 / M / 2020, June 11, 2020. During this 7 year trip, curriculum adjustments have been made several times to align with the needs of graduate users. Equipping graduates with various knowledge and skills to be able to compete in the landscape architecture industry. No less important, equip graduates with a good attitude through character education.

The idea of the emergence of the LANSKAP MENTAL, inspired by the expression MENTAL REVOLUTION as an effort towards a civil society. This was very challenging and a course with the title Lanskap Mental  was born. If the landscape is managed by human resources who understand Lanskap Mental, then the sustainability of natural resources for life must be harmonious. This brief description of the Constitutional Court made students aware of their existence, that they were part of a landscape and at the same time understood various landscape characters. This understanding will be able to bring up the imagination to maintain human interaction with nature based on natural law itself. Because natural changes occur in response to the accumulation of human behavior. Lanskap Mental courses are given through three interrelated approaches, namely: (1) the natural environment of the family, (2) the natural environment of education, and (3) the natural environment of the (world) community

The Landscape Architecture Study Program teaches students about the landscape with various activities in it and through the touch of art seeks to regulate it with the concept of sustainability (ecosystem) so that it is beneficial to nature and humans. The curriculum that is taught contains a variety of courses including: Fundamentals of Landscape Architecture, Landscape Development History, Garden Design, Traditional Balinese Gardens, Landscape Architecture Geographic Information Systems, and various Elective Courses, one of which is Lanskap Mental.

Landscape, as a term, has been used by various scientific disciplines, such as art, history, geography, ecology, politics, planning and design (Kaymaz, 2012). Although it has been linked to its main physical features as the environment, now the term landscape refers to more than just scenery. Landscapes are complex phenomena that continue to develop through time and space. According to MA Jacobs and G Tress (2004), Mindscape is a scene when people experience it and has a very personal meaning. Matterscape is a landscape in physical reality. The existence of phenomena in physical reality is objective, in the sense that it does not depend on individual desires, moods, intentions or awareness. Therefore, there is only one physical reality, for example: trees, animals and rocks, whether I am aware of it or not, whether I like it or not, what is clear is that it exists as it is. Matterscape is a material reality, described as a fact system on which natural law is based. In this landscape, one can, for example: take a walk, get wet or fall on the ground.

A newborn child cannot walk right away. It takes time and learning to become skilled through imitating and repeating. Furthermore, it is required to be able to recognize themselves with the various potentials they have, before learning more about themselves. Plato and Aristotle's work has included the topic of cognition, because one of the goals of philosophy is to understand all natural phenomena through understanding from humans themselves. Based on the Big Indonesian Dictionary, cognition is explained as follows: (1) Activities or processes of gaining knowledge (including including awareness and feelings) or the effort to recognize something through one's own experience; (2) the process, introduction and interpretation of the environment by a person; (3) Knowledge acquisition results. When the process of self-recognition has taken place, there will be an awareness that every landscape in the face of the earth must have its own character, whether formed naturally or by human intervention, such as coastal landscapes, agricultural landscapes, urban landscapes, etc. Each landscape character must have a different impact on anything in it, including human characters.

Every human being in the course of his life and life, whether realized or not, must be shaped and shaped by the natural environment, including students who study in the Landscape Architecture Study Program. If students already know about the character of a landscape, then it should be that the student concerned becomes aware that he is a product of his environment. Surely intelligence will emerge in him that landscape design is capable of influencing human behavior in it. For this reason, the principle of prudence and sharp and holistic analysis is key in designing a landscape.

Based on the brief description above, it can be said that the Landscape Character, will always experience changes over time and human activities in its efforts to meet various needs. Through Lanskap Mental lecture material, students are expected to realize early that they are engraved by the natural environment (family, community, and the world) so that it can be expected after completing their education as a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture (S.Arsl.), Having character as a professional ethical capital, very care about the environment and life.
