Garbage waste pollutes wells around landfill

It is undeniable that every human being born and economic activity produces waste during his life, so that with the increase in population and the accumulation of an increasing amount of waste. Garbage as the rest of human and industrial activities in several regions has been well managed so that it does not interfere with the quality of the environment and the beauty of the city or the area. Many people throw garbage in the yard or on empty land around the house, so that it will produce unpleasant odors and pollute the environment. Not a few people burn trash, but the air becomes polluted and as a result breathing is disrupted.

Disposal of garbage in landfills has been the best solution, although it will still produce unpleasant odors. Some types of waste can be decomposed quickly, but some are slow and even up to hundreds of years such as plastic. Besides the pungent odor, it also produces water that will seep into the surrounding soil. As a result, the soil around the landfill will be polluted because during the decomposition process it produces liquid (Gerald H., et al 2015). The process of absorbing liquid waste is difficult to observe, because it flows in the soil and often pollutes underground water around landfill. Water is a primary need for human life. If the water is polluted by the liquid resulting from garbage decay, it will disrupt the survival of the community around the landfill, especially regarding their health. Contaminated ground water will contain harmful substances such as Mercury (Hg), Flour (F), Nitrate (NO). Salenium (Se), chromium (Cr), Bromium (Br), Cadmium (Cd), Barium (Br) and especially Ecoli bacteria that cause stomach pain.

Thus the results of research conducted by the Department of Earth Physics at Udayana University in the Sarbagita Suwung regional landfill in South Denpasar in 2018. The Sarbagita Suwung regional landfill is already very worrying, because every day the volume of garbage that enters reaches 4,200 m2 per day. Trash is not only from the city of Denpasar, but also from the Regencies of Badung and Tabanan. The large volume of waste generated will certainly produce a lot of liquid.

From the result of geoelectric measurements around the Sarbagita Suwung landfill, the result show that the soil has been contaminated with liquid waste to a depth of 8.72 m. well water testing conducted at the Analytical Laboratory of Udayana University found that there were DO concentrations of 3,779 mg / L, BOD of 11,337 mg/ L and COD of 23,240 mg / L. from the figures obtained show that well water around Sarbagita Landfill has been contaminated. The result of the Manganese and Cadmium content were not found, but the Cyanide concentration was 0.024 mg / L and lead was 1.6997 mg / L. the measurement result for E. coli are very high, which is equal to 9 E. coli / 100 ml. this means that E. coli bacteria content is very large.

From the result of geoelectric measurements and testing in the laboratory shows that the area around the Sarbagita landfill has been polluted, the liquid waste has entered the ground has reached a depth of more than 8 m. the results od the well water tests indicate that the well water around the Sarbagita landfill has been polluted and is not suitable for home use stairs.
