ONION (ALLIUM CEPA L.) FOR WOUND
BURNS TREATMENT
Burns
is a response dermatologic of skin and subcutaneous tissue toward temperature trauma that caused by direct contact or exposed to heat sources such as fire (thermal), electricity, chemicals, or radiation. The
main cause of injury is fire (55%), other causes are hot water and oil, as well
as the most cases are minor burns second degree (76.9%). Handling of mild burns
must be fast which aims to suppress bacterial growth. Usually burn wound dressing or topical antimicrobial agent is used to
moisturize the wound so that the epithelialization process is optimal and
protects the skin from infection with microorganisms.

Onion (Allium
cepa L.) has the activity of preventing cell damage, antibacterial toward Staphylococcus
aureus, enhancing fibriolytic activity so as to facilitate blood flow, and
wound medicine. The compounds contents in onion as like prostaglandin, saponin,
pectin, flavonoids (quercetin and routine) known as anti-inflammatory, besides
containing kaempfenol, phosphorus, allisin, aliin, fumaric acid, phenolic acids
, and kafrilic acid. Scientific evidence shown that the effective concentration
of ethanol extract onion (Allium cepa L.) is 20% through to decrease of wound area and
increase percentage of wound contraction (%) respectively are 0,99 cm2 and 58,27%. This activity caused
by contains Quersetin 3,4’-diglucoside,
Quersetin-3-beta-O-galactose (Hyperoside),
and Isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside that active as to heal burns from 29
compounds.
