Currently the world is
shocked by the outbreak of a disease caused by a virus called corona known as
covid-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019). Corona Virus Disease 2019 has infected
many people in Indonesia, forcing people to move from home. One of them is
teaching and learning activities, for almost three months all teaching and learning
activities on campus have been abolished, replaced by online learning at home.
Online lectures can be
understood as formal education organized by higher education institutions where
students and their instructions (lecturers are located in separate locations so
that they require an interactive telecommunications system to connect the two
and the various resources needed in it. maximum in universities (PT) in
Indonesia.
Since the Minister of
Education and Culture issued Circular Number 36962 / MPK.A / HK / 2020 so that
all teaching and learning activities both in schools and college campuses use
online methods (online) as an effort to prevent the development and spread of
Corona virus disease (Covid-19 ). This transition to learning forces various
parties to follow the path that could be taken so that learning can take place.
Lots of interesting,
funny, and sad stories that occur in the learning process with this method. As
a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many schools and colleges were closed. As in
the United States UNICEF tweet dated March 9 below, nearly 300 million students
were affected by the closure of the educational institution. Some regions in
Indonesia, Some universities in Indonesia also carry out similar policies, for
example Udayana University. This policy, whose purpose is none other than to
prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections.
In carrying out
lectures online there are certainly advantages and disadvantages including:
The disadvantages of online learning
are:
a. It is difficult to
control which students are serious about taking lessons and which are not.
b. Learning is more theoretical and minimal practice
because it is not possible for direct interaction with students
c. For those who live in locations with poor
communication infrastructure, it will be difficult to access the internet.
The advantages of online / online
learning are:
a. Time and place are more effective. students can
directly follow the learning process from home.
b. Students not only depend on the lecturer, but can
also learn to do their own research via the internet.
c. Automatically students are trained to better
master the ever-evolving information technology.
Teachers / lecturers
generally use video conferencing applications such as Zoom, Webex, and Meet to
make claims that learning continues. They send various instructions and then
expect students to carry out and / or collect the assignments requested. Either
via email or whatsApp.
All levels of society
anywhere in Indonesia can join this program, and can save time and energy.
There are so many problems that occur in the online learning system including:
lecturers usually teach quite effectively in class, can they teach effectively
enough from home, because in teaching online there must be many obstacles
including inadequate signals and in online lecture discussions less effective,
because the material presented is not necessarily biased to be understood by
all lecture participants. But this system is only effective at giving
assignments to students. Despite the difficulty in listening to lessons through
the online system, learning methods with virtual systems cannot be avoided
during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Not only in terms of
teaching but in terms of assessment also ineffective which usually assess
students from discipline in attending lectures, discussions in each meeting but
with the presence of online lectures we can only judge students only from
assignments other than midterm and final exams.
The 2020-2021 school
year which is about to begin, in Indonesia still applies virtual learning
especially for areas in risk areas, with the number of positive cases of corona
increasing, this method is still being implemented.
Online learning
activities that have occurred over the past 3 months are arguably quite
successful, although there have been a number of Constraints among students and
teachers. Regardless of how effective online learning is or not, at least this
way of learning can still fill the time of students and teachers while at home.
