Additive AGP (Antibiotic Growth Promoter) is only a memory
In
the chicken farming business, the cost of feed is the biggest cost, reaching
60-80% of the production cost. Farmers
generally use more commercial feed (factory feed), which is usually used in the
feed AGP (Antibiotic Growth Promoter). The purpose of using AGP in feed is to
nourish the digestive tract, especially from pathogenic bacteria and viruses,
so that the performance of chickens remains in prime condition. The danger that
will be caused if it is continuously on the feed, it will cause an accumulation
of antibiotics in livestock products such as eggs and meat, so that if these
products are consumed by humans it will cause antibiotic resistance to some
types of antibiotics.
Based
on this, the government issued Law No. 18/2009 in conjunction with Law No.
41/2014 concerning animal husbandry and animal health. Prohibit the use of hormones or antibiotics mixed in the feed. Furthermore, as of 1 - 1 - 2018 the
government officially prohibits the use of AGP in feed, through Permentan No.14
/ 2017 concerning the classification of animal medicines.
As
a result of this prohibition, it has an impact on livestock production
(decreased egg growth / production, poor feed conversion and chickens are often
sick), so that it will affect the income of farmers.
Prohibition
of AGP since 2018, many researchers have tried to examine feed additives as a
substitute for AGP, to improve chicken performance. Like giving probiotics, herbal plants that contain phytochemicals, or giving a mixture of food
substances (vitamins, minerals and amino acids).
