The impact of the development of technology is currently growing very rapidly. This causes the need for computers or gadgets uses to increase. Not only is the use of computers increasing, the need or duration of use has also increased. This will cause a collection of symptoms of fatigue in the eye, known as computer vision syndrome (CVS). Not only adults, but even children can also experience these symptoms. Data shows that there is an increase in the use of computer screens in children aged 4 to 7 years by 5 to 7 hours per day. Other data also show the decline in physical activity of children to only 60 minutes per day. This data certainly shows us quite a high degree of vigilance against the use of computers, especially in children. Excessive use of computers or in high intensity can cause eye problems. Children have a low level of self-awareness, good adaptability, and children are not small adults. This will aggravate the symptoms of CVS.
Symptoms that can appear on CVS consist of internal and external symptoms. Most CVS complaints in children can be in the form of burning sensation in the eyes, watery, headaches, double vision, blurred vision, and complaints related to refraction error. Besides the impact of the use of computers with high intensity can affect children's development. Children become anti-social, overweight, late in talking, and impaired skills development. CVS symptoms in the eye can occur due to the child being too focused on the close range for a long time. The close focus will cause the eye muscles to accommodate and will have an impact on eye fatigue. Besides that close focus for too long, will cause the wink reflex to decrease so that the process of discussion of the eyes becomes obstructed. Both of these conditions will cause the sensation of dry eyes. The thing to watch out for is the effect of blue light from the computer that can damage the receptor cells in the retina.
Parents should pay more attention to children when it comes to computer use. The time and intensity of use must be adjusted and adjusted for the age of the child. Also, parents must be more sensitive to seeing the child's changes when they show symptoms of CVS. To better ensure the condition of a child's vision, it is advisable to have regular eye examinations. Regular checkups to the eye doctor can ensure that the child is suffering and treatment can be given faster. Don't forget to apply rule 20:20:20 to reduce CVS complaints and manage to light, both computer lighting, and indoor lighting. Do not forget to continue to increase the consumption of healthy nutrients and drink enough water.
