Scientific language are
naturally considered to have connection within words that is related to
science, including their meaning. These types of words or terms can be found in
sciences in which they may be similar in their spellings but differ in meanings.
This is due to the different subject, text, and contexts. In other words,
scientific words can be in specific words or specific terms for a certain
subject. If we are thinking about nowadays the work of translation products in
scientific words or even specific terms will not only focus on using a human
being as an assistant or translator but also with technology.
The innovation of using
free access of tools such as WebCorp is the easiest way to learn and make a
comparison result of study or teaching or lexicography since users without a
doubt can find it through the website on the internet by typing the name in
Google. Automatically, after typing the name it will be seen with the name of
WebCorp: the Web as Corpus. By clicking its name, the user will be directed to
the web engine. Then, type a word or phrases in the search box, set the
language required, span for the number of characters and choose bing to get big data of corpus results
in the search engine. Post search options can be controlled by changing its
filter by date or range if needed. In some cases, after searching with this
engine may have a blank result of concordances so it is a challenging situation
to modify the words or phrases of the language as a researcher, linguist,
lexicographer, or translator to find what they need. Their decision is
considered based on numbers of concordances result at the end of engine searching
because it could change in seconds, minutes, or even hours. This happens when
the setting of post search is not being specified for its function but it is
depend on the requirements. Calculation of findings related words or phrases
will give benefit to classify, calculate, and put them in a table to know the
percentage or even statistic result, including finding information such as
meaning. Besides, further searching for the highlighted words or phrases can be
easily connected by clicking one of them for their source from articles,
newspapers, etc.
Recently, the
translation is not only focusing on the product-oriented but also the
combination of using translation technology. This seems to give innovation of
works conducted by the translator for their result of translation. Both of them
should work together to give a better result in translation. This opinion and
findings had been mentioned through research by Aryani (2020) in her
dissertation entitled Kesepadanan Makna pada Penerjemahan Istilah-Istilah Peternakan
Ruminansia Kecil Kambing dan Domba because she is using corpus data with
the use of WebCorp or stands for Web as Corpus to support the findings of
equivalence of animal science terms for the target language of Indonesian
translation. Her invention had proven that media of WebCorp could support the
findings but the translator should also have an understanding of the text and
collaborate with the expert of the one who has background knowledge. So, it
means that technology involves being a method for the innovation of translation
study. Scientific research has shown that the media can make creativity and
conventionality in translation, the process of teaching in class using big data
of texts (corpora) to solve problems in the project of translation. RodrÃguez
(2016) in his article "Using Corpora in Scientific and Technical
Translation Training: Resources to Identify Conventionality and Promote
Creativity" mentions that one of the Web as Corpus can be
used as an approach within monolingual data. The forms are words nor phrases
and based on their concordances findings through engine search. This research
had been using the media as a supporting tool for the process of translation
study. Besides, this type of technology may give a contribution to other elements
of linguistics, lexicology, including education but it depends on the user's
necessity.
It is truly important
to know the implementation of technology within translation in this era. It
tends to be a turning point of text work into a valuable inspiration for its
users to know with the search engine. New creation and modification of results
without limitation could be conducted. Certainly, younger and elder generations
will have a better understanding if brilliant ideas had been designed into the
media of writings for particular purposes. The translation should not only stay
on a text or being an interpretation, but methods of comparison achieve for the
equivalence of language transfer from a source language into the target
language. Believing that changing of methods in translating is affecting the
improvement of translation quality.
