The Pura Dhang Hyang Kahyangan Erjeruk is one of the 10th century relics of the temple. The temple is one of the evidence of the trail of Dang Hyang Nirartha travel to Bali Island. The temple which can be reached within 30 minutes from Denpasar City, has an interesting history to be reviewed. Wayan Rana, Deputy Pekaseh and Upakara section of Pura Erjeruk said a glance at the temple. Told in ancient times, the people of Sukawati-GIanyar have been hit by the most devastating drought. In short, Dhang Hyang Nirartha's story went to the area. With his strength and grace, by carrying the rod he brought, the clear water that eventually prospered the citizens. From this clear water word came the term Erjeruk. Another story says Erjeruk describes the location of the temple, which is close to Purnama beach which is an oversea or Bay of ocean oceans. Another story is also still circulating about the origin of the naming of the Erjeruk temple. However that is certain to date, the temple that is empon (have-red) about 700 family heads (KK), has mystical power that is believed by not only the community around but almost the whole of Balinese people.

Based on the results of research that has been done by a number of students from the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM)-Yogjakarta shows that the sand contained in Pantai Purnama, south of Pura Erjeruk, contains elements that can cure diseases. It is approved by, Pak Made as the traditional Bendesa of Sukawati, said that Pantai Purnama is often visited by residents to conduct theraphy treatment. For example, suffering from stroke, rheumatic, uric acid, and so on. Many of them are healed. " Some come only 7 times to Pantai Purnama already cured ", Bendesa said. But it should be noted that the area of Purnama Beach is divided into two, the left for the treatment area while the right to spit (shower-red) and Melasti.

Erjeruk Temple, in addition to being believed to provide prosperity and treatment, some people believe that this temple can also give offspring. Mr. Wayan Rana said that there is a citizen who nunas Sentana (ask Red-descendants) in this temple. They came by carrying a number of upakara presented and with a sincere heart of prayer by conveying their wishes. The magical story has also been experienced by a regular (red-people) pilgrimages to Pura Erjeruk on Ranina Siva Ratri. In front of other pipets, he told the story he had already experienced. At that time, he came from the Kemenuh, Tangkil (Come-red) to the temple. During his nursery procession, he was approached by a number of crabs that suddenly appeared in the temple. Starting from that time, he was frequently approached by residents to request oil for treatment. The emergence of crabs in Pura Erjeruk is not a rare thing, the residents who do the offering often see a similar phenomenon. When this crab seeks to be expelled will surely go to a tree called the Kampult tree, which is located in the middle of the temple, and the crab then disappears invisibility.
