POETICAL ANALYSIS FIGURATIVES USED IN “MILK HONEY”

ABSTRACT
The discussion of this study is focused on the analysis of figurative language used in the poem “Milk and Honey”. It aims at identifying the type of figurative language found in RupiKaur’s poems and describing the meaning represented by the use of figurative language.
The data were retrieved from one of New York Times bestselling poetry book by Rupi Kaur entitled “Milk and Honey”. The data was collected from the book by ready intensively focusing on the figurative language in the poem then written down in order to make the identification process easier. In analyzing the data, this study used descriptive qualitative research to identify and describe each figure of speech found in the poems.
The findings of this study showed the types of figurative language found include simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and irony. The sentences of RupiKaur’s selected poems tried to tell the reader especially women about struggle, encouragement, self-love, and equality. In the construction of the poems, Rupi Kaur is aware of using figurative languages and it is used intentionally to strengthen the poem’s meaning.
