Abstrak

This study aims to describe the commons in Bali. These resources, which include land, water sources, waterways and forests, are communally owned and managed. Subak is the embodiment of water management in Bali. Over time, changes in the relationship between the state and the community have led to modifications to this management system. This thousand-year-old governance practice has adapted to various changes in its various forms, as demonstrated by subak (Lansing, 2006, 2007) and coastal zone management (Warren, 2005, 2007; Fagertun, 2017; Wardana, 2019). Building on this, the author uses Bali in the contemporary era as a case study to trace shared governance practices and offer an alternative to dominant governance, which often overlooks the goal of shared prosperity.
