The Politics of Coastal Governance in Bali: Between Special Economic Zones, The Commons, and Sustainability
Funding period : 2023-2024 Active
Abstrak
This study aims to examine the governance of Bali's coastal areas. Following the introduction of a government regulation on special economic zones in Bali, the southern coastal region has become the focus of a national strategic project overseen by the central government. This study views special economic zones as a modern strategy for national economic development that involves various stakeholders in its implementation. In practice, local community involvement still needs to be examined in terms of the extent to which the local community has successfully participated in development. This is to prevent development strategies that further marginalise citizens. Examining special economic zones within the framework of coastal governance and critical political economy allows this study to consider the changes taking place on Bali's southern coast, a long-standing tourist destination.
