Abstrak

Advances in information technology have caused globalization to hit almost all parts of the world so that the tendency for the emergence of universalism has become very strong. In this globalization era, city identity is a very important issue. Globalization also has an impact on increasing the number of people to travel / traveling and give effect to the physical development of the city, due to the development of tourism developing very rapidly, especially supporting tourism facilities such as commercial buildings. Commercial buildings in the tourism area are the main components of the face formation of the city / region. The characteristics of commercial facades have a very significant role in creating the identity of a place / region. The identity of the place is very much needed by the community where they live, but it is also needed for visitors or future visitors to a place, because identity is a character / quality that distinguishes one place from another place.

 

Legian Kuta area is an area that is visited by many tourists, and the majority of the characteristics of the appearence area are dominated by commercial buildings. Commercial buildings are generally buildings that are rented out which then function as a container for commercial activities, such as restaurants, shops, cafes and so on. The role of the facade of commercial buildings to create an atmosphere of an orderly, orderly and orderly city / region and stress local identity is very important. .

 

This study aims to determine how the characteristics of the facade of commercial buildings in Legian Kuta area and how the role of building facades in shaping the identity of the place. This study aims to find out how people interpret identity in their designs. In this study the parameters discussed are related to the characteristics of the facade of commercial buildings: the overall shape of the building, the use of materials, the design of the signboard and its role in forming the identity of the place. The results of the study can be feedback for the government on the issuance of building permits or as feedback to evaluate the characteristics of the face of the city
