Abstrak

In Bali, in addition to the popular bali cattle, there are also small population of cattle living in restricted area in forest of the village of Taro, District of Tegallalang, Regency of Gianyar, Bali Province. The local people named these particular cattle as Taro white cows due to its white color of the skin. Because of its appearance as like an albino, this animal can be easily distinguished from the bali cattle. As mentioned above, its habitat is only in the forest of Taro village and the animal is utilized for ritual ceremonial purposes only.    As up to now there is no research works concerning genetic characteristics of microsatellite DNA of BoLA gen of Taro white cows, the present study was aimed to obtain the molecular information about genetic variation of this particular and endangered species of cattle. It is expected that the obtained information can be useful in attempts to conserve the genetic materials of Taro white cows.
