Abstrak

This research was conducted to determine the role of the hormone leptin on estrous intensity and the of estrus in nullipara bali cattle.

Feeding to pregnant bali cattle is generally relative the same on quality and quantity as non-pregnant cows while the energy requirements of pregnant bovine cows are much higher compared to cows not pregnant so there is a negative energy balance in pregnant cows and after parturition. This situation will lead to an increase in the mobilization of reserves stored in adipose tissue. Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipose tissue with a molecular weight of 16 kDa with 146 amino acids that act as metabolic signals on the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. Giving leptin at the time of postpartum is expected to improve reproductive efficiency by accelerating the emergence of postpartum estrus and increasing the intensity of estrus.
