Development Strategy of Bali Pig Farming Business To Improve Community Economy in Rural Areas

Abstrak
fulfillmen of food needed, including animal protein sources continues to be a challenge for every region in Indonesia, even in the world. This is due to the rapid rate of population growth and the increasing economic conditions of the people which have an impact on increasing demand for animal protein. The majority of the population in Bali is Hindu, which has a close relationship with consumption of pork, both as daily consumption and for ceremonies. The island of Bali is known for having a wide variety of unique culinary based on pork, one of which is pork roll. Bali Pigs is one of the germplasm owned by the Province of Bali, is a type of fat pig that is very potential to be used as a rolling pig. The high demand for rolling pigs, is a golden opportunity that needs to be considered by farmers. However, the current profile of Bali pig farming in Bali is still traditional in nature with very simple maintenance management. Therefore, to meet the high demand for Bali pigs, an appropriate business strategy is needed, for business development and marketing. This research was conducted in the District of Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency. The study area was determined based on LQ analysis in accordance with the potential of the region in the development of the Bali pig husbandry business. Respondents used in this study consisted of 50 farmers and 6 expert respondents respondents. Data is collected by interview using questionnaires, in-depth interviews, observations, as well as tracking literature and related documents. Data obtained in this study were analyzed using: LQ analysis, IE analysis, SWOT analysis, and QSPM analysis. The results of this study indicate that there are five alternative strategies offered for the development of a Bali pig farm business to improve the community's economy, namely: 1) Developing village education based on animal husbandry education; 2) Establish livestock business groups; 3) Establish livestock cooperatives; 4) Conduct training in business management of Bali pig farms; 5) increase the entrepreneurial spirit of the farmer; 6) intensification of animal husbandry extension activities. The priority strategy recommended in this study is to develop village tourism based on animal husbandry education.
