Writers’ stance is a topic tha has invited big interest. It refers to attitude, feelings, assessment or commitment of a writer or speaker towards a message (Biber and Finegan dalam Berman et. All, 2002). In showing his attitude, a writer uses certain markers. For example, in English, a writer may use modals like must or may.

This research intends to analyze stance found in English and Indonesian in journal articles. More specifically, the research discusses the writers’ attitude towards the topic of the articles by using language features. It is expected that the finding of this research will show language features used in expressing the writers’ attitude.
