SELF CONCEPT LGBTQ (LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER AND QUEER) IN NEW MEDIA

Funding period : 2020- Deactivate

Abstrak

This research examines LGBT identities that appear in new media. So far studies related to identity mapping have been studied through youth activism, net working commodities (Losh, 2010) fans culture (Edwards, 2009), and social space (Lazzara, 2010). In these studies there is still a minimum of traces of the formation of identity that appears in every show in new media. LGBTQ in the Indonesian context is indeed positioned as a stigma that must be avoided. It's just interesting, on some YouTube shows a massive phenomenon that contains LGBTQ content appears. This research departs from the issue of how LGBTQ conceptualizes themselves in new media. In this research, novelty becomes the focus by using the psychology theory of communication and new media, as well as queer theory from Judith Butler. During this time, studies with queer theory have mostly focused on dissecting LGBT issues in the western world (Dzara, 2010; Hanmer, 2009), but they are still rarely used to dissect the media hegemony in the eastern world like our country. This research is a qualitative research with observation data collection method. Observation on some Youtube, Twitter and Instagram content and accompanied by data collection through interviews with content owners such as YouTuber and some document data. Data analysis will use discourse analysis which is to try to critically analyze each of the shows that are the object of this research while confirming with the theory and literature that already exists. The research output will be focused on national journals and produce social engineering which will be submitted to the media and government.
