The Study of Children Place attachment in Tenganan Village with Visual Mapping and Behaviour analysis

Abstrak

Abstract Place Attachment is a form of attachment to a place, which is very influential in the formation of the identity to the individual and community. Place Attachment cannot be constructed alone but rather involves a positive and continuous experience in the individual, social, environment through daily physical activities and certain events. The place attachment reinforces the identity and society’s cultural identity of their environment. Place of attachment is a process that takes time. Therefore, childhood becomes a critical period in the formation of a person's identity and place of attachment. Children are important to be considered in family cultural sustainability, the community and the surrounding environment. The position of children in the village of Tenganan Bali Aga becomes very important because they determine the sustainability and uniqueness of Bali Aga culture. Compared with many studies of architecture in the village of Tenganan, the position of children and the continuity of culture as a key factor is often overlooked. Therefore, this research will examine the quality of place attachment owned by children of Bali Aga village of Tenganan, which is important in the construction of the identity for the individual, the community and his physical environment. The case study qualitative research approach is selected by utilizing behavior mapping that consists of a centered place mapping, person-centered behaviour observation mapping, and physical traces. Research data collection process is also equipped with verbal and graphic interview interviews, where the answers to questions are in the form of a picture or sketch drawn by the children. All data obtained are analyzed using visual analysis method in which graphic data categorized and interpreted. The comparison and correlation of collected data construct research conclusions regarding the quality of place attachment of the children. Finally, this research could provide a typology of quality place attachment, which owned by children, the cognitive map of the children towards Tenganan village, also positive recommendations for the sustainability of the community's culture and identity.
