Hubungan pola asuh orang tua dengan kecerdasan emosional remaja di sekolah menengah pertama (SMP) Negeri 3 Negara

Introduction: Adolescence is the transition period between childhood and adulthood. For teenagers to solve all their problems require an understanding how to recognize emotions well through emotional intelligence. One of the factors affecting emotional intelligence is parenting style. Method: We conducted an observational cross-sectional study on Junior High School students (SMP Negeri 3 Negara) with the aim of knowing the relationship between parenting style with emotional intelligence in SMP Negeri 3 Negara. Samples were selected with purposive sampling by involving students that attended lecture as research sample. 60 samples were asking to filled out a parenting style and emotional intelligence questionnaires. Scores of both scales are then analyzed. The result showed a significant relationship between parenting style and emotional intelligence on adolescent with (p = 0.000; p <0.05). Result: These result indicates that adolescents with better parenting style had better emotional intelligence. The results of the study showed authoritative parenting had better emotional intelligence than permissive and authoritarian parenting
